Romance symbolized in the Heart Associated with the Feast of St. Valentin's Day." For this reason it is the month set aside by the Heart Foundation for its fight against heart diseases in all forms. For some unknown reason the weekend of Feb. 13 and 14th of this year was chosen as the days for the continuation of the Abortion-on-demand campaign to take place in Ottawa. The Royal Commission on the Status of Women has recommended that "The Criminal Code be amended to permit abortion by a qualified medical practitioner on the sole request of any woman who has been pregnant for 12 weeks or less" but Fetal Heart function can be detected at 12 weeks. It was suggested by Mrs. G. Dashkewytch that each member take an active part in this campaign by writing our members of parliment expressing opposition to any extension of Abortion Laws. Prime Minister Trudeau commented that changes to liberalize the present abortion legislation would depend on an expression of opinion by a majority of Canadians. So do your part by-writing your letters to the members of parliament. Madam President brought to the attention of the members that a Service Pin is now available for presentation to League members who have performed outstanding service at any level of organization. This pin makes possible the recognition of League members who may not have served as presidents of councils, not be eligible for the twenty-five year membership scroll or for Life Membership, but who, by reason of general devotion to League work, or perhaps some particular project of the League, are deemed worthy of retognition. Mrs. G. Dashkewytch, introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Mr. Tony Speziale, who is our Separate School Supporter, representative to the Lake Superior Board of Education. Mr. Speziale spoke and answered questions regarding the proposed amalgamation of the Terrace Bay and Schreiber High School. Mr. Speziale was thanked on behalf of the members for coming out and explaining the issue. A social hour followed, Mrs. G. Ramsay and her committee looking after the lunch.
