FEBRUARY 25, 1971 Open Letter - cont'd The appearance of Mr. Steele the regional super- intendant of the depart- ment of education only aggravated the situation He displayed an inexcus= able ignorance and lack of information." Mr. Steele underestimates the average intelligence of Terrace Bay. He defin- ately should have stayed home. No one questions the necessity to alleviate the excessive costs of educa- tion. However at the school level appreciable budget changes are res- tricted. Many voices throughout] the province have been raised calling for a re- view of the establishment of the district education- al board with its ridicu- lously high salaries and operating costs. Queen's Park is passing the buck. Queen's Park is respon- sible .for the present sad state of our educational program. Queen's Park must accept the responsibility of a lot of injudicious spending resulting in the building of large ex- pensive quasi empty schools. | would like to direct questions to Queen's Park. Is the District Educa- tional Board as presently constituted, justifiable? Is it overstaffed, over- paid or in over abundance? Signed - J. Adamo.
