PAGE 20 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 14, 1971 MANY REPORTS DISCUSSED AT U.W. MEETING The United Church Women began their first meeting of the year with a potluck supper on January 5th. : Rev. E.C. Prinselaar began the business meeting with a reading from the Scriptures and then spoke on the commitments people should be aware of in both church and community. Mrs. Frank Fummerton presided, welcoming five visitors and thanking the members for thair support during the past year. Mrs. Bill Thrower gave both the monthly and annual treasurer's report. The minutes were adopted as read by Mrs. Walter Dukes. Members were reminded to save their used stamps and the labels of certain food products. A donation of $25.00 was sent to Wayside United Church in Thunder Bay and later a box of good used clothing will be sent-members were asked to donate to this. A discussion was held on the cleaning of the church and it was decided the members would again do the annual inventory of supplies, which seem to accumulate and are no longer required. Names of local people who are ill were presented to Mrs. Lilyan Christie, the card secretary. Mrs. Oscar Niemi gave the sewing committee report and thanked members who had contributed to the recent bazaar. Mrs. Wesley Clemens and Mrs. Russell Macadam thanked those who had assisted at the dinner and reception for the Bourre-Clemens wedding in Dec. Mrs. John Morris and Mrs. Clemens were appoin- ted to audit the U.C .W. books. A donation of three hundred dollars was made to the official board of the church. A member of the Schreiber Progressive Youth Club was present to request the U.C.W., to cater for a banquet for 60 on January 9th during their three day convention. Members agreed to do this. A new committee was formed to plan dinners and teas. Menu changes for banquets were discussed. There was also a discussion on restricting catering, but the decision was left to the executive. A bakeless bake sale was planned for February . Mrs. Macadam collected for the Least Coin Pro- ject. Following the meeting there was a social even ing with an exchange of gifts. Amusing readings - were given by Mrs. Macadam and Mrs. Clemens. FOR SALE - 1970 Sno Cruiser, 20 H.P., In excellent condition, Phone 825-3224, tH LEGION AUXILIARY PLAN BONSPIEL Mrs. Douglas Moore, treasurer, reported at the January meeting of the ladies' auxiliary to thé Royal Canadian Legion, that there are now 66 paid-up members, three still in arrears for 1970 and three Life members = Mrs. Annie LeBlanc, Mrs. Jessie Macadam and Mrs. Polly Bottomley, all now residing in Thunder Bay south. The tentative date of February 12 and 13 was set for the annual bonspiel--subject to approval of the curling rink committee . ] A sum was added to the special account set up for the auxiliary's 25th birthday celebration. Social nights for January were set for the 12th, 19th and 26th. Mrs. Jack Winters who presided for the meeting, reported on plans made for installation of officers on January 15th. Mrs. Archie McColeman for the Sick and Visiting Committee reported cards sent and visits made. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs. Winters who has been acting president since Mrs. V. Rigelsford moved away in the middle of her term as president. Members were reminded of dues now payable . Minutes were read by Mrs. Ken Davis and Mrs. Bill Dunham acted as warden.
