The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of cases of German Measles which may, in turn, break the chain of transmission that leads from children to women of child bearing age. Contracting German Measles during the early months of © pregnancy can produce undesirable effects in the unborn baby. SCOUT ORGANIZATION PERFORMS TOWN CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN a On Saturday, May 9th, the combined forces of the Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Leaders participated in a town clean-up campaign. About sixty-five members of the Scouting organization started at 12:30 p.m. to clean up public property, parks, streets, etc. The town was split into ten areas with a team and leader for each area. The teams were moved around as required to help out in critical areas. Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Company Ltd. assist- ed by supplying the Scouts with a truck and necessary tools and equipment. After a very successful clean- up the boys held a weiner roast in front of the Scout Hall where little trouble was encountered consuming twenty-one dozen hot dogs. continued page 2 ....... Serving the District May 28, 1970 LONGLAC SAWMILL TO OPEN JUNE 24TH A $1 million sawmill, one of the most modern in Ontario, that will help stabilize regional employment and forest utilization, will be officially opened here June 24th by Lands and Forests Minister Rene Brunelle. Longlac, 200 miles north-east of Thunder Bay, is the northwestern Ontario woods headquarters of the Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Company . Announcing a day-long program to mark the dffic- ial opening, G.L. Carruthers, President of Kimberly Clark, said the fully-automated chip and saw mill will operate on a year-round basis producing 20 million board feet of lumber and 16,000 tons of dry chips annually. The mill will create employment directly for about sixty persons and an additional thirty-five will be employed in timber harvesting and hauling operation to supply the mill. This yearly payroll will total about $700,000. For more than twenty years _ Kimberly Clark here has employed many Indians in its woods operations, including the new mill. " This plant, "announced Mr. Carruthers, "will utilize about 40,000 cords of logs each year, main- ly'spruce and jackpine, and thus will permit Kimberly Clark to use more effectively the forest resources on our Longlac management limits, which, we are proud to say, are recognized anny sie best managed and operated in Ontario.
