LETTER TO THE EDITOR Madam Editor: Terrace Bayg is my home and when I refer to ny home town I have always done so with pride, Like Mr. Cavanaugh, I algo was a pioneer, coming to Terrac@ Bay in the summer of 1946 when the area offered trees, mid and a lot of promise. I eften miss the town and its people, many of whom are dear to me as friends or acquaintances. I look forward to the TERRACE BAY NEWS every week and, probably because of heavy mail loads I didn't get the December 4th issue (this is only the second time I've failed to get the paper) but I did get the December II issue. I surmise, from the context of Mr. Cavanaugh's letter that (as may be expected) there has been some criticism.of 'beth the tewn and it's association with Kimberly Clark. However leesely used, or implied, the phrase "Company Town" - stirs in the hearts of some "dedicated" fristy souls the need to take up arms against the extablishment, regard- less of the leck of objective. consideration regarding the association between the prime employer, civil government, and individual residents, as must exist in a town like Terrace Bay. In past years I®ve seen company towns in upper Michigan, very recently in Kentucky and South Carolina and by the def- inition of company town I am aware of, Terrace Bay is not. Loosely applied, Terrace Bay may be within the definition,in whieh case friends, be grateful@ take pride and count your blessings that our town is the product of very enlightened management who from strict (and necessary) control during the md, trees and promise era through the present, have gradually yielded control, thereby demonstrating genuine interest in it's employees and all citizens of the community. Be grateful for the manner in which the transition from sompany rule to civil rule has taken place, be grateful for the standards which have been set to protect the personal and preperty interests of all, take pride that while the ether area industries have begun to regress and virtually fail, Terrase Bay has continued to progress and in fact provide the liveliheod for the children of fathers employed in failing industries. I doen't think the people of Terrace Bay have changed such and I remember many instances where in other towns disaster in a family would have been practically ignored, not se in my heme town, That says alot for Terrace Bay whieh is, in final anelysis, e name used to deseribe some very fine people working for some very fine people, all working together. : Merry Christmas and Peace in the New Year.
