STRATHCONA GOLFER WINS LADIES' OPEN Thirty-four lady golfers entered the Aguasabon Ladies Third Annual Tournament on Sunday. They were members of Penninsula Club at Marathon, Chapples and Strathcona clubs of Thunder Bay and one from Toronto. Ann Lushney of Strathcona and Helen Shanks of Chapples won Low Gross first and second prizes with their tallies 82 and 87 respectively .for the 18 hole tourney. Three extra holes had to be played to break a tie when Marg Phillips of Terrace Bay and Ellen Campbell of Toronto turned in identical net scores of 69. Ellen ended with Ist prize of Low Net and Marg placed 2nd. Prizes also went to Mae Laplonte who got Low Gross 47 on the Ist nine and Gladys Kalomy whose Low Gross on the 2nd nine was 45. Ivy Gray had a low net on the Ist nine of 36 to win a prize and Jeanette Gunter got the 2nd nine with her score of 36. Novelty prizes were given to Marilyn Thomas (High Hidden Hole), Isabel Ferrier (Low Hidden Hole), Lil Amadeo (Longest Drive), Jan Hall (Least Putts), Barb Wise (Most Honest Golfer), and to Kay Stefurak who was declared the most im- proved golfer. Club President Ivy Pattison congratulated all the _winners and invited them to return again next year before presenting the various prizes. She was assisted by Tournament Chairman ' Jeanette Gunter. A delicious buffet supper, prepared by ladies of the local club-and convened by P. Wellings and her'committee of Betty Luke and Dot Koski was served on the clubhouse patio before the visitors left for the return trip home.
