pac EE LO MARCH 27,1969 SCHREIBER ' NEW YEAR BABY HONOURED One good thing deserves another was the motto for the March meeting of Schreiber Women's Institute, members answering the roll call with a spoon for kitchen supplies and an Irish funny story. Each made an Irish corsage and wore it during the meeting. Mrs. Charlie Todesco, secretary, gave a lengthy and interesting report on the Traffic Safety meeting she attended in Fort William during January. Mrs. Alvin Slater reported on the last district director's meeting stating the annual meeting will be held in MacGregor Hall on May 14. Donations will be made indiviually to the Cancer committee supplies cupboard. A copy of proposed by-laws was read and held over for further consid- eration by the executive as were decisions on short courses offered. Councillor J.S. Caccamo, was welcomed by Mrs. Harvey McCanna, president. Mr. Caccamo attended the meeting to present township council's silver cup to Schreiber New Year Baby, Antonio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Speziale. The presentation custom- arily made in February was delayed because of the baby's illness. Harness reported, at the March meeting of Schreiber municipal council, that the new town truck has beer: ordered and automatic timer delivered. When it is installed the OPP will be informed and the curfew inforced. Mr. Harness also said that in meeting with representatives of the Emergency Health Service he was informed that they do not pay for over-time ambulance driving. Councillor J.S. Caccamo reported attending the meeting of the Women's Institute to present the town's silver cup for the New Year Baby to Antonio Speziale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Speziale. The attorney general sent information concerning the Regional Fire School and this will be discussed with the fire chief. The working agreement with the town employees was held over for further discussion. Information from the Ontario Water Resources Com- mission stated that the chlorine residual must be recorded daily and on a weekend basis - matter re- ferred to town superintendant. Dr. G.K. Searles wrote stating he will discontin=- ue his practice in Schreiber at the end of March and council voiced their regret and also their concern, deciding to consult both the Thunder Bay Health Unit and J.E. Stokes, M.P.P. in the matter this being the first time for many years the town has bee without a resident doctor.
