TERRACE BAY NEWS "PAGE 'A! TERRACE BAY HIGH SCHOOL PUBLIC SPEAKING On Saturday Feb. 6, 1969, Terrace Bay, Mar- athon and Manitewadge Highschools took part ina public speaking contest at Marathon. It was spron- sored by the Ontario School Trustees andMunicipal Councillors' Association. There were two parts to this program. The first the prepared speech and the second was the impromtu speech. In the prepared speech Cathy Graham from Terrace Bay who spoke on Rafioactivity came first. Peter Lee from Maratho who spoke on Poverty came second and a stuelent from Manitowadge came next. In the impromtu a student from Manitouwadge came first with his topic on Viet Nam. Claudette Boudreau from Terrace Bay who spoke on advertising came second. WESTGATE HIGH SCHOOL ENTERTAINS The Terrace Bay High School student body and faculty had the priveledge of listening to the Westgate High School Senior Band last Friday morning. Windy, Mame, Never on a Sunday, Have Danced All Night, and Up Up and Away were some of the many selections played. They ended ona serious note with one of Mozarts' composistions . Afterwards most of the students stayed for lunch and talked and got acquainted with the band members . Some of the students were lucky enough to try and play the instruments. The lunch was supplied by the students while the pop was donated by the Kiwanias. Donna Rafalant. On Friday Feb. 7, Twenty- five TBHS students travelled to Geraldton for basketball games . The girls, playing first, fought to a 39-20 win. Geraldton girls put up a stubborn front which was difficult to break before the second half. Next the boys whipped through a rousing game. The relentless teams waged a war in which neither side was ever in the lead by more than three points. Geraldton edged us by a vexing 41-40 score. Once againd we were billeted in private homes for the night. On Saturday morning our: girls stole a 44-14 game. Our ill-fated boys lost 40-30 The stars of the games were Albert Cadieux for the boys and Gail Simmers for the girls. We were arrived home that afternoon, exausted though victorious. Both teams -- are looking foreward to meeting Schreiber on Thursday of this week. a
