COUNCIL HOLDS INAUGURAL MEETING At Schreiber council's inaugural meeting, Reeve F.V. Harness congratulated J.S. Caccamo and H. + J. McParland on their return to office, stating the importance of having experienced members, with regional government under discussion and the sewage project to be considered. Among last years successful business was the purchase of a new am- --e bulance and fly spraying equipment for the town , with an additional portable classroom acquired for the high school. He felt a reserve fund should be * set up to cover, in part, the sewage cost and neces- sary renovations in the town hall. The highway will be widened, repaved, curbed and landscaped, where it passes through the town, but it was _ suggested council do not make their lighting changes until the other improvements have been made. 'Councillor McParland stated he was most satisfied with the new roof on the arena; the formation of the recreation committee, (thanking those contributing to its success) the rink committee, and the artificial ice fund committee. He also commended P.J. Guin who had painted the cemetery fence as voluntary contribution to the town's improvement. He felt in- vestigations should be made to some sidewalks being replaced, new sumps installed, the possibility of re- opening the road to Lake Superior from the town and a landing for boats be built on the town beach at Walker Lake. He was in favor of setting up the reserve fund suggested by Mr. Harness. Mr. McPar- land also felt consideration should be given to the requirements of regional government and in what way Schreiber council can contribute to it, and suggested that the local finance committee be com- prised of the full council. Councillor Caccamo also favoured the reserve fund suggestion and felt council should plan to attend all meetings of the regional government committee meetings. .Due to councillor R.B. Spadoni's con- finement to home, Councillor Caccamo had taken the proposed plan for the sewage project to him and brought back his views. Council were pleased to hear that Mr. Spadoni hopes to attend the next regu- lar meeting. The tender for oil supply for the town submitted by Brian Birch ", agent for the B.A. Oil Co. was accepted.
