OCTOBER 17, 1968 RAILWAY RATES REDUCED Canadian Pacific Railway has announced reductio of passenger train rates, now in effect until Decem- ber 5th, and January 6th until April 30th. Although some rates are substantially decreased, others were subject to an increase of cost. Also, a new feature has been added - introduction of a special family - rate. Commencing October 27th, passenger trains, (The Canadian) will arrive at Terrace Bay as follows: Train No. 2 Eastbound 1.07 a.m. E.S.T. daily. Train No. 1 Westbound 11.42 a.m. E.S.T. daily. The station waiting room remains open at all times for passengers entraining and detraining. For further information, phone 3317 or: contact Steve Nickoluk at the Terrace Bay station. GAIL DAKIN HONORED AT BRIDAL SHO WER Miss Gail Dakin was the guest of honor at a Bridal Shower held in the basement of St. Martin's Church on Friday evening. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Comeau, Sheila Dakin, E. Belliveau, Rochon, Dorothy Dakin Louise Stuart and Gwen Olsen. While Gail opened her many lovely gifts, Dorothy Dakin fashioned a gay bonnet with the ribbons and bows . Games were played with Sheila Dakin in charge. Helping to serve a delicious lunch were Misses Sharon, Joyce and Joan Belliveau, Claire Belliveau and Aline Rochon. Mrs. Helen D'Arcy and Mrs. May MacLeod enter- tained the hospital staff and nurses of Terrace Bay and Schreiber, at the home of Mrs. MacLeod, when they gathered to honor Mrs. Jean Plummer and bid her farewell. The group presented Mrs. Plummer with a gift of China. Mr. and Mrs. Plummer leave Terrace Bay shortly, to take up residence in British Columbia. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Larson over the Thanksgiving weekend, were their daughter Darlene from Toronto and friend, Dave Dalcetti from Fort William. TERRACE BAY NEWS PARISH PENNY AUCTION PLANNED BY C.W.L. : | PAGE The Catholic Women's League of St. Martin's Parish Council, held their regular monthly meeting in the Church Hall on Sunday evening, October 13, preceeded by the recitation of the Rosary in the Church. The meeting opened with the League Prayer, and Scripture Reading, from the Jerusalem Bible, read by Mrs. G. Churney. President, Mrs. W. Corrigan chaired the meeting and welcomed a new member. Mrs. W. Pytyck read the minutes, followed by the correspondence. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. D. Kenney. Reports from standing committees were heard. _ A Parish Penny Auction will be held on November 22nd, convened by Mesdames B. Walsh, J. Santerre and W. Sadowick. A League Bake Sale and Novel ty Table will be held on December 7th, convened' by Mrs. R. Fournier and Mrs. A. Regis. President Mrs. Corrigan spoke of the guest speaker at next month's meeting. Miss Mary Sereda, a patient at Westmount Hospital for the Handicapped, Fort William, will speak on her autobiography, as a handicapped person. After the business meeting next month, the Schrei ber C.W.L. will be invited to hear the guest speake The meeting was closed with the singing of Holy God, We Praise Thy Name; and O Canada. Mrs. F. Helmink was introduced and spoke on the proposed new Schreiber-Terrace Bay Roman Catholic School Board, and explained the meaning of amalgamation. Lunch was served by Mrs. A. Drexler and her com- mittee. LOCAL TEACHERS ATTEND MEETING North Shore Association of the Federation of Women's Teachers' Associations of Ontario held its Fall Meeting in Marathon on Tuesday, October 8th. The following teachers attended from Terrace Bay: Bonnie Hamilton, Alice Brown, Doris Greer, Shirley Mikus, and LaVaughn West.
