TERRACE BAY NEWS SCHREIBER The North Shore Association of the Federation of Women Teachers Associations of Ontario held its Fall meeting in the Everest Hotel in Marathon with 33 attending from Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Maritouwadge Heron Bay and Marathon. Attending from Schreiber were Mrs. Glorie Miller, Miss Edith Clemens, Miss Shelbie Closs, Miss Linda Gibson and Miss Gwen Hadley. Linda Connelly, Anna Fummerton, Muriel Nesbitt and Jody Davis were all home from university for the Thanksgiving weekend. Jean Morton of Fort William is coming home with Jeanne McCuaig for the holiday . Mrs. R. Gauthier of Crofton, B.C. and her sister Mrs. D. Graham of Fort William were here last week visiting old friends . Mr. and Mrs. D. May and family will spend. the holiday with relatives in Bracebridge . Mr. and Mrs. L. McCuaig were in Atikokan for Thanksgiving . Mr. and Mrs. H. Costall visited their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. B. Costall, in Ottawa. Mr. dnd Mrs. R. McKay and daughter Laurie, of California, visited the Norman McCuaig's last week . Mrs. W. Greenshields and Mrs. D. Tremblay are both in the Port Arthur General Hospital . Mrs. J. Corbett and Mrs. J. Whitton have returned from Toronto where they attended an Eastern Star Assembly in the Royal York Hotel. Mrs. Whitton is the Associate Matron of Silver Birch Chapter . The Busy Bees of St. John's Anglican Church have set the date for the Autumn Hat Show for October 17 in St. John's church hall. Mrs. B. Simon was hostess for a farewell party hon- oring Mrs. Pringle Plummer, who is leaving with her husband for a new home at the west coast. Assisting in serving the throng of old friends who called during the afternoon, to visit with Jean, were Mesdames W.T. Wallace, A. Gordon, J. Handel, R. Macadam W. Gerow and 1. West. On behalf of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge, Mrs. Jean Fischer presented Mrs . Plummer with a sterling silver bracelet, and on be- half of the friends at the tea, Mrs. Simon presented a clutch purse. Mr. and Mrs. M. Cressner and Miss Irene Amanou- weiz of Plymouth, Ind., visited the L. McCuaig's over the weekend. DRIVEDEFENSIVELY! ! OCTOBER 17, 1968 LIBRARY BOARD PURCHASES ENCYCLOPEDIA Mrs. M.J. McGrath presided for the monthly meet ing of the public library board, in the absence of * Mr. HM. Ermel. Registration forms and work sheets for the Regional Conference on October 18, 19 & 20th were distribut- ed to Mrs. M.J. McGrath, Mrs. D. McGuire and Mrs. R. Hill. Disatisfaction with the Bookmobile service was again expressed and it was decided to present a letter of recommendations for improvements of these to the Regional conference. Librarian, Mrs. Hill, urged that action be taken on obtaining correspondence courses for part-time librarians who do not have the opportunity to attend workshops. The increasing interest in the library is a matter of great satisfaction to the trustees, but also an embar+ rasement since the need for more space, more books and more shelves is quite evident. It was decided to purchase a set of the Encycloped: ia Britannica junior for grades 3-8. Accounts to the amount of $72.40 were endorsed for payment. Twelve children's books were sent to the Arts Centre for repairs . The high school assisted the librarian in selecting books from the new Want List. SOCIAL NIGHTS PLANNED BY LEGION AUXILARY Social nights for October 14th and 28th were plan- ned by the ladies auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, at their regular meeting. Mrs. J. Winters presided and said that she and Mrs. D. Gunter would do the decorating for the Halloween party. She also stated the Saturday kit- chen Quick Food bar will be operating again and members are asked to volunteer to work at th's pro- Yect. A letter was sent to the Branch asking to meet with them and make arrangements for the New Year party. Mrs. B. Lidkea agreed to convene the Children's Christmas party and Mrs. |. Johnson volunteered to look after the lunch. Mrs. Lidkea will also convéne the Poppy Day can- vas. A clean-up bee for the Legion was set for Nov- ember, and all members are asked to lend a hand. Congratulations were offered to Mrs. W. Cocks and Mrs. N. Nesbitt, who were runners-up in the dart tournament in Marathon recently. Cont'd on pg 14)
