| PAGE 12 ROSSPORT Mrs. Roy Rochon and baby Grant left to join her husband at Hendrix Lake, B.C., where they will re- side. Mr. and Mrs. A. Bull and sons of Fort Francis visi- ted Mr. and Mrs. L. Ibey enroute to their new home at Wawa where Mr. Bull has been appointed Chief Fire Ranger. He was assistant Fire Chief at the Pays Plat Depot before being transferred to Fort Francis. Mrs. Josephine Gerow returned Saturday from Kama Tower where she had been employed by the Dept. of Lands and Forests for the season. Peter Legault has left for Port Arthur to resume his studies at Hillcrest high school . Mr. and Mrs. Wm Schelling, Mr. and Mrs. E. Legault have returned from a motor trip over the Lake Superior Route. Guests of Andre Nicol recently at his camp on Nicol Island were his aunts and uncle and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. A. Bentz and daughter Lois, Mrs. Alice Bird, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bentz and children, Mr. and Mrs. P. Bentz and children, all of Port Arthur, and friends, Mr. and Mrs. W. Harris and family of Nipi- gon. The, Rossport Public School opened September 3ra with Mrs. M.E. Price of Powassan, Ontario as teacher, with 28 pupils enrolled. Mr. and Mrs. W. Connell and children of Port Arthur were guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. Gerow during the week. George Spencer Jr. is visiting relatives at Kaminis tiqua. Mr. and Mrs. H. Legault has left to visit relatives at Calais Maine and Eastern Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. F. Flatt have returned to Port Arthur after spending the summer here . Rev. E. Prinselaar of Schreiber held services here Sunday in the Union Church after an absence of two | months when he and family spent time visiting rela- tives in Holland. Mrs. Florence Hubelit is a patient in the Port Arthu General Hospital . Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Douglas of Beardmore were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. C. Todesco. Through some children hearing cries for help from Quarry Island on Saturday evening, Mac Hubelit and Jack Spillett rescued Bob Williams and compan- ion of Terrace Bay. The motor of their boat conked out and they had lost the oars in the high waters | which caused the boat to drift on the shores of the island. They had climbed to the highest peak of the TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 12, 1968 of the island and called for help. It was fortunate that a South wind was blowing and that the Spenger boys were outdoors and heard the cries. Fog was drifting which was a handicap in locating the exact location of the men. Provincial police J. Wills assisted in locating and bringing the men to town and saving their boat from destruction. Plans were made for a penny auction and bingo to be held when members of St. Berchman's Altar Soci- ety met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. C.W. Todesco. The president, Mrs. E. Gerow led in the opening prayers and welcomed the members in the beginning of the fall meetings. The secretary, Mrs. H. Legault, read the minutes and correspondence. A satisfactory financial statement was presented by the Treasurer, Mrs. F. Legault. The date for the Bingo was set for the last Friday of the month with all prizes to be cash. The secretary was instructed to purchase articles suitable for a penny auction and the members offered to make novelties for some. It was noted that some flowering shrubs which had been guaranteed to flourish annually without being protected during the winter months, were not grow- ing at the church. It was decided to notify the nursery and have their recommendation on improving the growth of the plants. Following adjournment, the hostess served luncheon and a social hour was had. FA Aa actnienlint ohn SCHOOL BOARD SETS RULES School Board members of Rossport held a special meeting to discuss matters pertaining to the opening of the fall school term. It was decided to transport grades seven and eight to Schreiber Public School and lessen the burden of the teacher here, making it more or less a Primary School. Existing accounts were passed for payment and a report read on the water supply. Mac Hubelit will transport the stu- dents to Schreiber. A discussion was had on roof repairs. Information on the roofing mixes will be obtained. A report was studied regarding the forma tion of the regional board which takes over in Jan- vary. It is the consensus of Rossport that all school sections should be recognized and that at least one member from each community be on this board, not just let the larger communities elect members on this board. The board decided to send letters to parents re their rules pertaining to use of the school grounds and that school doors will open at 8.50 a.m. , 12.50 at noon.
