Len first started working in Port Arthur in 1936 as a seasonal employee, moved to Longlac in '39 and his service has been continuious since then. From September '39 to February '45 Len served in the Arm Service Corps, after which he returned to Longlac and was transferred to Pays Plat in 1947. In 1949, Len started his long summer service at Killala Lake deputy base, and through the years grew very fond of the picturesque location, keeping the grounds and buildings in tip-top condition, as many guests who visited the headquarters can verify. Len Ibey and Killala almost became synonymous. When Killala headquarters was closed in 1963, Le returned to Pays Plat on a year-round basis. The staff are aware of Len's fondness for Killala Lake and Hareld Kodila, Conservation Officer at Pays Plat made a replica of the Killala Lake base, com- plete with canoe and paddles (Cont'd on TERRACE BAY NEWS "Mark Dashkewytch (3 goals), Kenny Hanley (2). . late in the third period to 4-2. Ina last effort to MARCH 28, 1968 PeeWee Champs -Cont'd from front page (under 10,000 population) of the Elks International PeeWee Hockey Tournament. With fourteen teams competing, it would have been hard to classify the Terrace Bay team as pre-tournament favorites, but they overpowered Geraldton, shaded Nakina, best- ed Fort Francis and edged Dryden on their way to a spectacular success. Throughout, they were led by the crowd-pleasing antics of Maurice (Jacques Plante) Cadieux in net, and the tenacious checking of eleven down the paths to victory. In the first game, Terrace Bay downed Geraldton by a score of 6 - 1 in a one-sided game led by and Danny Edmunds ( 1 goal and 3 assists). It was a decisive victory, with Geraldton only managing to get the puck past Cadieux in the last half of the 3rd period. In the second game on March 21, the PeeWee's found Nakina a bit tougher, but Danny Edmunds , scored the winning goal for Terrace at the 8 min- ute mark of overtime. Nakina, with 7 pickups from Lakehead and surrounding towns, and Terrace showed the fans a lot of hard fast hockey as they hooked up in a scoreless duel for 2 1/2 periods. Nakina scored the first goal, only to have Terrace Bay tie it up with a minute and a half left in regula- tion time. Both sides had a player in the penalty box when Mark Dashkewytch banged the puck into the net. The overtime was a continuation of excite- ment until Danny Edmunds dug the puck out of a maze and scored the winning goal. In the third game on March 22 against Fort Francis Terrace boys dominated the play throughout most of the game, when they forged intoa 4-1leadon | goals by Mark Dashkewytch (2), Danny Edmunds and Ronnie Zwaresh. Fort Francis narrowed the margin pull the game out of the fire, Fort Francis yanked their goalie, but the strategy backfired when Danny Edmunds picked up a loose puck and scored into the empty net to end the game 5 - 2 for our boys. In the Championship game on March 23 against the Dryden team, played in the Fort William} gardens before a crowd of almost 1500 spectators, our team again came up with a top notch performance. They ran into trouble early as a questionable penalty left them short handed. A real display of puck control by Danny Edmunds, plus tenacious checking by his teammates killed the penalty without a shot being fired at Cadieux. (Cont'd on page 14)
