GET ACQUAINTED 'SPIEL Grocery prizes of chicken, hams, bacon, eggs, and cold meat, were the prizes in the opening "Get Acquainted Bonspiel, a mixed spiel, which took place in the Schreiber Curling Club. Prize winners were: in the first event Harold Gellert, Eirene Harness, Evelyn Thrower, and Billie Ann Cocks. In the second event - Second - Brian Birch, Myrna McCuaig, Helen Doole and Cathy Herlihy. In the second event, first prize winners were: Freda Duggan, Jack Gordon, B. Spadoni and 1. Pattison. Second place winners were J. Jarosz, Tooky Herlihy, Crystal Kusik and Joan Wray. In the third event, first place winners were: Burton Phillips, Dorothy Hewson, Val. O'Keefe, and H. Crowhurst. Second place winners were Mike Cosgrove, Earline Johnson, Lil MacDonald and Blanche Garlick. The prizes were presented by Edna Cocks at a soc- ial evening on Friday following the regular curling events. CANCER FUND CAMPAIGN IN APRIL The Schreiber Branch of the Cancer Association held a meeting to plan its annual collection for funds in the home of Mrs. Jack Stokes, who is campaign chairman this year. The drive will be held April 26 and 27, with funds to be returned to the town hall on the evening of the 27th. Mrs. J. Campbell was appointed to attend the workshop seminar being held in Port Arthur on February 9-10. Each member was given a list and an appeal letter will be sent to business firms. Mrs. . HARRIS HONORED BY UNITED CHURCH Following a pot-luck dinner, the annual meeting of St. An- drew's United Church in Schrei- ber was held: with Rev. E. C. Prinselaar as chairman. A motion that voting rights be extended to all adherents pres- ent was carried. Information was received that The Observer (church paper) will be increased to $3 per year. The resignations of P. Van- Derkam from the congregation due to moving away and of G. Gawley from the post of trustee of the church, were accepted with regret and letters of ap- preciation for work they have done were drafted. On motion, it was decided to request the Home Mission Board for a grant towards furn- ishing the manse. Walter S. Harris was appoint- ed honorary life member of the church in recognition of long and faithful years of service in var- ious positions.
