A survey in one school district had' revealed that in "over "100" there ~ were: only' "70° schools, Bibles. It was-estimated that less than 10,000 Bibles were available in the nation's schools. With rap- idly developing educational fac- ilities, Kenya now runs over 5,000 schools. The Bible Society -is putting on the market a special cheap edition of the Bible for the cur- rent program. ..Since: the . pro-,}; gram came into operation last year, 35,000» copies *have -been"or- dered. Within the last few weeks Roman Catholic. Schools have been given permission to use this Bible. B The project has awakened 1n- terest throughout the country. Many teachers have given spec- ial donations, and a number of churches have donated for the program an amount many times larger than they previously con- tributed in a whole year. General distribution of Scrip- tures in Kenya is also soaring. Distribution of Scriptures for all last year totalled less than 400,000. In the first three months of this year alone, over one half million copies had been bought. The Consola- tion winner was Marg.Phillips over Phil Kelty, who were tied after nine holes and played an extra hole to decide the winner. Saturday, August 12th was the Ladies Board of Director's Handicap Tournament. Elizabeth Burns was the winner with a net score of 70.
