Vol.10, No.22 COUNCIL QUOTES Acting Reeve R.Sinotte presided at last Tuesday's meeting of Terrace Bay Council with councillors R.Bray, J.Caccamo, D.Desrosier and township Clerk W.Hanley, attending. W .Scheuchenpflug attended to make representation to Council for permission to establish a business on Laurier Avenue in the home now occupied by G.Pearen. For- mer reeve W..Adamo was present and voiced strong ob- jections to establishing a full time business in a residen- tial section. Council discussed the matter at length. Existing By- Laws forbid establishing such a business in a residential location and if permission is given in one case it would be impossible to control future requests. Minutes of the last meeting were adopted. Corres- pondence included a letter of resignation from A.Fraser, building inspector. This was accepted with regret; a letter from H.Ratchford listed requirements for Centen- nial Park lighting; a tender from B.Comeau asking $450. per season to care for lawns in the shopping area; a request from the Horticultural Society to hold a bedding plant sale (approval given); from the High School Student Council thanking Council for permission to attend one of their meetings; from Lakehead University thanking Council for their decision to make a twenty cent per capita grant each year for two years to the University; the Navy League asked permission to hold a Tag Day (granted); the Kiwanis Club and Horticultural Society proposed flower beds to replace the flower boxes on Simcoe Plaza (Council felt more information on proper maintenance should be given before approving). KIMBERLY-CLARK WEEKLY SAFETY SLOGAN "Knowing the weekly safety slogan can be re- warding, however, it is most important to prac- tice safety for "knowing is not enough." Last week the following persons received dollar awards for knowing the weekly safety slogan- C.Marcella, A.Spadoni, F.Gramatowski, E. Michniewicz, M.Chepelsky. When travelling by car we are guided by signs. They tell us the speed limit, warn us when to reduce speed or stop if the road ahead has a right or left turn, etc. These signs help us to have a safe journey but they are meaning- less if we fail to obey their message. Remember this week's safety slogan: OBEY SAFETY SIGNS - FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY COUNCIL ANNOUNCES 1967 MILL RATES seven of this issue. ___May 18, 1967
