April 27, 1967 RAPT AUDIENCE ENJOYS "TINDERBOX" The Terrace Bay High School Auditorium was filled for matinee and evening performances of "The Tinder- box" based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Ander- son and adapted by Dorothy Jane Goulding. Sponsored by the local Centennial Committee, the Toronto Museum Children's Theatre appeared as part of the Ontario Centennial Commission's plan to pres- ent plays throughout the province. lt was probably the first time the majority of the children, through the generosity of the School Boards, had seen a "live" professional group. The rapt faces and complete concentration as well as comments heard afterwards, showed their enthrallment with the advent ures of the soldier "hero" and the beautiful princess. The hisses and groans that greated the wicked Queen/ Witch emphasized their eager participation . Although this is a small cast, they are experts in doubling, and much of the scene shifting and chang- ing of costumes is done in full view of the audience to demonstrate their efficiency. The "here" played by William Copeland of the Cana dian Opera Company, proved an excellent foil for the charming petite princess, Marilyn Moyer of Winnipeg The "Queen" who was also a witch was ably portrayed by Patricia Grant of Glasgow. 'Rover" the lovable canine hero was played by Robert Aaron, while the chorus of soldiers and "ladies-in-waiting" were Hamish, Robertson, Jim Timmins, Richard Ayres and Gregory Winkfield. Mr. Winkfield the guitar accompanist is well known as a folk singer as well as an actor. In charge of lighting was Jim James, while Lin Weston took care of costumes with Sandy Moore and John Stam, stage managers .
