Page 13 ROSSPORT NEWS GERALDTON WINS CRIBBAGE TROPHY Twelve Geraldton men made their annual trip here Sunday for a challenge cribbage game with the local men's club and carried the trophy home with them, winning in a close score of 22 to 20 points. The Geraldton teams brought souvenir wooden trophies, made by them, to the Rossport players. These were carved from birch and mounted with plastic fir tree representing the Dept.of Lands and Forests, a core of rock for mining, with engraved pleques having Rossport-Geraldton, 1967, on them. The two oldest members of Rossport club, Oscar Anderson and Charles Todesco, were presented with honourary member- ship cards and buttons, from the Kenogamisis Fish & Game Protective Association by Mac McEwen. A buffet luncheon was served and a pleasant hour spent reminiscing. The Rossport Club plan to visit the Geraldton group early in May when fresh fish will be carried as a return gift. The members of Geraldton Cribbage club were Archie McEwen, Stew Munroe, Ray Graham, Jack Crayton, Al Berry, Vonn Dowing, Gordon Scott, Lou Livingston, Chas. Kerr, Chas.Alexander, E.McColl and J.Burns. Rossport players were Oscar Anderson, Romeo Bouchard, Peter Testori, Chas.Todesco, Eugene Gerow, Herb.Legault, Mac Hubelit, Felix Legault, Ben Lespenski, J.Dunn, Ken Bowlier and Tom Yandon. Toi Seppala wes time and score keeper. Mrs.Angela Testori, Mrs.Eileen Rouble and Mrs.Prina Ge- row captured the prizes at the weekly Five Hundred game on Wednesday evening, with Mrs.Hattie Yandon and Mrs.Joyce Yandon as joint hostesses. luncheon was served. Roger Auger is visiting relatives at Nipigon and Red Rock. Mrs.Anne Todesco attended the School Trustees conference at the Lakehead on Friday. Mr.and Mrs.WeSchelling accompanied by Mrs.Persy Sully were recent Fort William visitors. Alphonse Fenton and Henry Charles arrived Thursday from Fort William to work on the W.Schelling tug, the Clarilee, for the fishing season. Mr.and Mrs.Herb Lif spent the weekend in Port Arthur. Slim Bouchard and family of Nipigon were weekend visitors with Mrs.A.Ray. Lawrence Mushquash returned Sunday from Port Arthur where he visited relatives the past week. Mr.and Mrs.John Joiner of Huntsville arrived Saturday to begin his duties as Battle Island lightkeeper. Wm. Hubelit or Rossport is assistant lightkeeper. They leave this week by helicopter. Mr.Joiner succeeds George Brady who retired last Fall and now lives in Port Arthur. SCHREIBER NEWS Mr.and Mrs.Chas.Nesbitt are in Rochester, Minnesota for _ medical advice for Mr.Nesbitt. Mrs.Peter Sparkes is in McKellar Hospital. Mre.Norman McCuaig is assisting Mrs.Mary Jarva in the town office. Mrs.Hugh Stewart, Mrs.Gino Caccamo and W.T.Wallace are in Terrace Bay Hospital. Mrs.John Bulna and Mrs.Michael Smilsky attended the Hog- pitality Seminar sponsored by the Dept.of Tourism and Infor- mation and the Chambers of Commerce of Marathon, Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Nipigon, held at Terrace Bay High School. DEGREE CONFERRED AT RUBY REBEKAH LODGE MEETING Mrs.Bern Whent, N.G.and Mrs.Jean Fisher, V.Ge, presided for a meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge on April 12 when the degree was conferred on one candidate under the direction of MrseAnna Laine, degree Captain. A Centennial tea was planned for April 22 when centennial gowns will be worn and it is hoped that others in town will also wear them. A bake table will be a feature of the event which will be convened by Mrs.Gledys Hamilton. Mrs.Whent announced that the Schreiber student joining the Youth Pilgrimage to the United Nations will be Douglas Stefurak. Mrs.Chris Morris, for the C.P.and T.Fund, reported that a. penny auction is planned for May 19. The vice grand reported on sick members. A donation was made to the Schreiber Branch of the Cancer Society. A novel March in Quarter Time donation was made to re- plenish standing funds for various projects. On behalf of the members Mrs.Agnes Bryson presented 6 wedding gift to Mrs.Hamilton. Mrs.Margeret Gander presented the semi-annual financial statement and Mra.Florence Fisher the semi-annual treasurer's report. The next meeting will be on April 26. Following the meet~ ing, Mrs.Winnie Clements committee served lunch. HOSPITALITY SEMINAR HELD IN TERRACE BAY Last Friday night the Terrace Bay Chamber of Commerce were hosts to a Lake Superior North- Shore Hospitality Seminar. This was one of a series of seminars sponsored by the Ontario Department of Tourism and Information. Co-sponsore are: The Marathon and District Chamber of Commerce, Nip- igon Chamber of Commerce, Lake Superior Inter- national Highway Association and The Ontario Department of Tourism and Information. Sixty-four representatives from Nipigon, Mara~ thon, Schreiber and Manitouwadge were present, in spite of a heavy fog. A get acquainted and registration session started proceedings at 7.30 p.m. and guests were welcomed by R.Sinotte, representing the township, D.Rafalanf, Chamber of Commerce President. The latter intro- duced Mr. Bob Bridge, District Repre sentative - Ontario Department of Tourism and Information. Keynote of the seminar is, of course, a treatment of the travelling public, in particular, the tourist and slides, speeches and a film all pointed up what "Hospitality" means with appropriate examp- les. Guest speaker of the evening was Mr. Paul Drom- bolis, Secretary Manager - Canadian Lakehead Convention Bureau. (continued on Page 14A)
