Vol. 10 No. 13 Serving lhe District March 23, 1967 STUDENT EMPLOYMENT In a recent article in this paper regarding the Jack- ladder conversion, it was reported that summer em- ployment opportunities for students will be consider- ably reduced from last year. It is suggested that local students, interested in summer employment at the mill, contact the Employment Office before April I5th to confirm their availability. Students will not normally be hired before they attain age I|8, and since their will not be job openings for all elig- ible students, preference will be given to those from this area who are continuing their education beyond the High School level. There is one thing that no one can deny about this part of Ontario and that is, that the winters are long and cold. Figures recently released by the Ontario Depart- ment of Lands & Forests for this district indicates that compared with 1965, the months of November and December, 1966 were much colder. There were 31 days when the temperature fell below the zero mark as compared to I0 days in 1965. However, January was a much warmer month this year; (continued on Page 7) POSTAGE RATES TO BE INCREASED Interim adjustments to a number of postage rates, which will go into effect on June Ist and October Ist, 1967, were announced on March 13 by Postmaster General, Jean-Pierre Cote . He pointed out that the changes did not affect first class mail, but add- ed that as the study of postage rates continued, other adjustments would be necessary to firm up the whole postage rate structure. Free parcel post insurance which has been avail- able for indemnity up to $50.00 will be discontinued on October Ist. The new insurance rates will be l0¢ for a $10.00 coverage, 20¢ for coverage from $10.00 to $50.00, and 30¢ for coverage from $50.00 to $100.00. Also on October Ist, a new single C.O.D. service charge will cover all aspects of aC .O.D. transaction (collection, remittance and insurance). Fees will be 50¢ when the amount to be collected is less than $10.00, and $1.00 when the amount to be collected is between $10.00 and $100.00. (continued on Page 9)
