McCuaig SCHREIBER SCHOOL ADDITION OFFICIALLY OPENED The new addition to the Holy Angels Separate School was formally opened shortly after New Years in a ceremony attended by Architect Harold Tett of Port Arthur, the School Board, R.B.Spadoni representing Town Council, and L.R.McCuaig High School Board. The blessing was pronounced by Rev.J.M.Cano, P.P. with Altar boys Tony Commisso, Danny McGrath, and Ted Ross attending him. The School Board L.V.Bourke, John Power and Mrs. Bill Mullins, secretary-treasurer, took the visitors on a tour of the addition, introducing them to Miss Edith Adamo, of Terrace Bay, who is kindergarten teacher. Originally intended to provide kindergarten space for between 30 and 40 students, there is already a waiting list for entrance. The outside ribbon was cut by councillor R.B. Spadoni who offered the municipality's good wishes and congratulated the contractor on the fine structure. Mr.Tett cut the ribbon to the kindergarten room saying that, though he had designed many schools, this was the first time he had been given such an honour in an opening ceremony . The 56 x 70 ft. addition contains the kinder- garten, one classroom, and staff room with kitchen facilities. While the addition was being built a public address throughout the school was also installed. The classrooms now number to ten restoring the auditorium to its original purpose. Made of welded wrought iron and created by a former teacher, Paul Mostovac, it bears at the top an Owl, the school emblem, and a Diesel under it. Mr.Bourke,board chairman, paid tribute to D'Arcy McGuire during whose term in office the addition was planned and built. DR.G.K.SEARLES ADDRESSES C.G.C. The Catholic Girls' Club, at their meeting January 8, were gratified to receive a letter from the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto thanking them for a gift of toys, and deeply impressed to learn of the need for such gifts, which were used for child out-patients. They also received letters of appreciation from the Scarboro Missions and Sisters of St.Joseph. Plans were made for a Centennial Tea to be held early in February. Members will take part in the prayer for Christian Unity service on January 25. Father Cano introduced Dr.G.K.Searles who spoke on The Gift of Life, using slides to illustrate his address. Linda Connelly, who chaired the meeting, thanked Dr.Searles. The meeting was held in the Parish Centre with 46 present. .. Drive carefully
