Is a snowmobile a "motor vehicle" that needs licence plates and a licensed driver? If it is operated on a road or highway, the answer is "yes". A snowmobile is definitely a motor vehicle, within the meaning of the Highway Traffic Act, when it is ona street, road or highway. This means that all the regulations applying to cars and motorcycle on roads or highways also apply to snowmobiles-- for example, they must have vehicle permits and licence plates, have prope: headlights, tail-lights and brakes, and be operated by a driver who is at least 16 years old and has a driver's licence.
