August 13, 1966 THE NEWS Mother's monthly Special YOUR BABY BONUS CHEQUE ED ON MERCHANDISE AT KOLESAR'S 6.60 your cheque is_ worth fashion New BY NANCY GAYLORD FASHION CONSULTANT TO THE 160 SINGER CENTERS IN CANADA. Peek-a-Boo.shoes . . . the new- est tactics of transparencies. St. Laurent kicked off the idea and now high fashion shops take up the cry with the classic low heeled spectator pump in clear plastic with black patent heel and toe. Another hit will be the sporty Gilly with punched patent heel and toe, midway transparency and black lacing of course. Hitch a ride on this bandwagon before just everyone has them...but don't forget your pedicure. It's not Easter, so don't play bunny. Take a short, short skirt, high spike heels and dark stock- ings... just like a bunny play- mate, isn't it? Instead, comple- ment short skirts (which should be relaxed, never tight) with pale pastel stockings and flat or flattish shoes. Bell Bottom Trousers, Coats are what we'll be wearing and loving this Fall. The navy pea jacket has zoomed in on the fashion front, accented with red piping or braid. Mate with the newer bell bottoms with ankle pleats on the outside of the leg. The Inside Out story will be told in print soon. The secret is that the wrong side of a print is used on the outside for a faded look. Coordinate with the washed out look in denim separ- ates. A cinch for the home Fashionmaker since I'll bet we've all sewn something inside out before (by mistake, of course). Frankly Fake furs for winter come in colors nature never in- tended. Fabulous fun to sew and go in...a menagerie to choose from... squirrel, broad- tail, chinchilla, leopard or calf. Pick a simple pattern with no collar or buttonholes and as few seams as possible. For your first fling with fur fakes, try a sleeveless overblouse for aprés ski. Bind edges with thick, ele- gant braid instead of facings. Place pattern on wrong side with pile all going in same direction; cut from wrong side with a razor blade. After seam- ing, shear pile away from seam allowances and with a pin, lift out pile cought in seam on right side. Go stock yourself an "animal" in your favourite fab- ric store and have fun. Happy Hunting! Color it Berry for Fall... Cranberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry or strawberry .. . de- lectable hues to flatter every complexion. Paris decrees plum and fuschia, the extremes at each end of the berry spectrum, for ultra-high fashion. For suits, co-ordinated flannels in soft plaids and matching greys will be a strong trend. 1S WORTH 10% Page 9 Simcoe Plaza.... Terrace Bay, Ont. FRENCH CANADIAN GIRLS CAMP-IN HERE One hundred and fifty girls with their directors and counsellors spent last Monday night 'camping in' at the Terrace Bay High School . They were members of Club Jeunesse--a French-Canadian group, mainly from Montreal, who set out in three school busses to make the trip from Montreal to Victoria, B.C. Their trip began July 5th and was scheduled to end Aug. 12th. Veterans at setting up camp (they can be all set up under canvas in less than ten minutes) they soon had soup and spaghetti cooking outside on the porch, while others prepared bedding arrangements in the auditorium, set and laid tables. Although it was barely 7 p.m. some of the younger members (they range in age from 12 to 18) were already asleep, totally ignoring their neighbours. At 5 a.m. that morning they had b een awakened by rain coming in through their tents while camped at Kakabeka Falls. However, in their six weeks on the road they were - forced to sleep inside only on six occasions. They were under the direction and capable leader- ship of Diane Heon, Liliane Paquin, Antionette Leroux and Raymonde Brossard, with an additional twenty counsellors, one to each tent.
