HOLY ANGELS CHURCH SCENE OF WEDDING White mums adorned the Altar in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church on May 28 for the marriage of Judy Daun, daughter of Mr.and Mrs.John St. Jean and Ivan William Cocks, son of Mr.and Mrs. William Cocks. The double ring ceremony was solemnized by Father J.M.Cano. Robert McPar- land was best man, Miss Anna Fummerton was or- ganist and Giovanni Cerbrario the soloist. The ushers were Bernard Morrow of Port Arthur and Stephen Morrill of Schreiber. Given in marriage by her father , the bride chose a white satin gown with fitted bodice featuring a Sabrina neckline and long pointed sleeves. In- verted pleats added fullness to the skirt which was ornamented with lace appliques and wide centre band of lace. Her veil was caught to a crown of pearls and brilliants and she wore the groom's gift of a silver cross centered with a diamond. She carried pink sweetheart roses spiced with cherry blossoms placed on a white kid Missal . The bridesmaid, Miss Billie Ann Cocks, wore a floor length model in aqua crystalette over taffeta. A matching headress was highlighted with pearls and brilliants and she carried a bouquet nosegay of white mums entwined with cherry blossoms. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was given in the Guild Hall. For her daughter's mar- riage Mrs.St.Jean chose a navy and white suit with white vestee, navy straw hat and corsage of pink carnations with lily of the valley. The bridegroom's mother chose a coral suit with round collar and cuffs of shirred white lace, white hat and corsage of white carnations. A buffet dinner for relations and intimate friends was given in the home of the bride's parents and in the evening a dance was held in the home of Mr.and Mrs.R.B.Spadoni, aunt and uncle of the grooms. Mr .and Mrs.Cocks spent a honeymoon in Min- neapolis, the bride travelling in a pink double knit suit with hat and accessories in white. They will make their home in Fort William. Prior to her marriage the bride was entertained by her friends at a shower tea arranged in the Guild Hall when tea was poured by her grandmother and aunts, Mrs.George Lemieux, Mrs.Bor den Ross and Mrs.Larry Bourke, and her fiancee's aunt, Mrs. R.B.Spadoni. The groom was feted by his friends ata stag arranged in Walter Simpson's home when Bob McParland, on behalf of those present, gave him a purse in token of their good wishes. Out of town guests attending the wedding in- cluded Mr.and Mrs.Dennis Morrow, Miss Judy Hol- land, and Allan O'Brien, Fort William, Mrs.Lil Morrow, Miss Bernice Morrow, Bernard Morrow, Miss Mildred Labelle and Bob Deacon, Port Arthur. Mrs.J.B.Trowsse (Jil McCuaig) has just been elected first vice.president of the Nova Scotia Civil Servants Association. Mrs.Trowsse teaches Psychiatric Nursing in a Nova Scotia Hospital . Award Winning Cadets - Photo by |.McCuaig DINNER HELD BY UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The United Church Women of St.Andrew's United Church held a dinner before their last meeting prior to the summer recess. The meal was served in the Guild Hall with the Catholic Women's Lea- gue catering and thirty-four attending. Following dinner members returned to their Church Hall for a business meeting with Mrs. John Spillane presid- ing. A bid was sent to St.John Ambulance Di vision for their banquet on June 22. Sewing Convenor Mrs .Oscar Laine asked help to complete a quilt . Mrs . Spillane reported on a centennial committee meeting and a list of UCW events during 1967 will be sent. Information on the Retreat in Saskatche- wan was read but decision on sending a member was tabled. A donation was made to the Bible Society. Many notes of appreciation were read from those.who received cards, gifts and flowers. A thank-you letter was sent to the Legion for loan of tables and an apology for the delay in returning them. Mrs.Gary Drake volunteered to name convenors for the summer baking project. Funds realized will be used in a building fund. It-was decided to purchase four tables with ex- tensions for use at suppers and banquets. Mesd. Geo.Scott, A.Herlihy, G.Drake and J.Spillane will be hostesses for the September 11th meeting. Equipment was returned by the kindergarten tea- chers with their appreciation for the assistance given by the U.C.W. to their project. Following the meeting a hilarious satire on fashion shows was presented with Mrs.Russell Macadam as commentator and Mesdames Drake, Fummerton, Crawley, Herb Gellert, D.Wilkinson T.Whent and J.Spillane as models. The Ensembles of Tomorrow included numbers called 'Kitchen, Bathroom, Bou- duoir, Laundry and a space design called Funnel . A draw was made for a table of prizes and lunch was served to end the evening. Sixty exuberant cubs left Schreiber Saturday morn- ing to attend a Cuboree in Manitouwadge.
