OF AN ERA The closing'of Schreiber YMCA marks the passing of one of the Town's oldest landmarks and the end of the town's oldest social organization--the fam- ous Ladies Bowling League, which has existed since 1909. Two of the older former bowlers are Mrs. George Moore and Mrs.Ernie O'Connor, now of Fort William and Mrs.George Smith of Victoria, B:C., with Mrs.J.D.Bryson and Mrs.Tom Bryant still in Schreiber. Nostalgic recollections are being enjoyed by former pinsetters Innes West, Paddy Bourguignon, Hubert Weaver and Lester McCuaig--now all retired. In early years the YMCA was a community centre with boys' clubs, adult sing songs and varied ac- tivities. In more recent times it has been just a hotel--with a three lane bowling alley. The 'Y' and its annex have been sold although the identity of the new owner has not been announc- ed. It is assumed that the buildings will be razed to make way for a new enterprise.
