DISTRICT DEPUTY VISITS SILVER BIRCH CHAPTER Silver Birth Chapter, O.E.S., held a buffer sup- per in the Temple Hall on February I4th, honoring their District Deputy Gr and Matron, Miss Doris Abbot of Port Arthur on her official visit. Among those present for the occasion were forty-two mem- bers of Lakehead chapters and two guests from Red Rock. The flower of the Order, white gardenia, were used in the centrepiece which graced the head table and flanking white tapers were set in floral holders. The latter also adorned the side tables. Toastmaster Rev. T.G.Husser proposed a Toast to the Queen and a Toast to Chapters in district 17 was proposed by Mrs.Stella Brown. Miss Abbot replied to this toast. A toast to the visitors, pro- posed by Mrs.E.Beddard, was responded to by Rev. F.Moore of Argyle Chapter, Port Arthur. Convening the supper were Mrs.Stella Brown assisted by Mesdames E.Haughn, G.Sitch and S. Boyd. Routine business was discussed at the regular meeting which followed the dinner and an official welcome accorded to Miss Abbott on the occasion of her inspection. Several visiting Past D.D.G.M. and Past Grands were also welcomed. Past Matron Miss B.Haughn presented a gift on behalf of the Chapter to Miss Abbott. The social and delicious refreshments served at the conclusion of the meeting were handled by Mrs. M Baillie, Mrs.P.Rattray, Mrs. D.Weaver, Mrs.E. Haughn and Miss D .Rummery . THE NEWS February 24, 1966 The Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Branch 223, will hold their meeting Sunday even- ing, February 27th at 7.30 p.m. sharp in the Legion Hall. All members are asked to bring a tea town. Guests of Mr.and Mrs.A.Marquis last week were Mr .and Mrs.Norman McLean of Sault Ste.Marie.
