Photo by J.Desrosier SCOUT AWARD PRESENTED AT KIWANIS DINNER The Kiwanis Club of Terrace Bay Inc., enter- tained R.Wills, Commissioner of the Pic River District Boy Scouts, and local Scout Samual Harris, at dinner on Tuesday, February !5th. During the evening Mr.Wills presented the Herman Roberts Memorial Trophy which is presented annually to a Scout who has achieved a high standing, to Samuel Harris, son of Mr.and Mrs.R.Harris. CHA MBER OF COMMERCE TO PREPARE BRIEF W.R.Bray, president of the Terrace Bay Chamber of Commerce chaired the meeting which was held Thursday evening, February |7th, in the large meet- ing room of the Recreation Centre. Correspondence was read and a letter which was received from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce was discussed. It was decided to request more in- formation as to the advantages of joining a Pro- vincial body of Chambers of Commerce instead of the Northwestern Ontario Chamber of Commerce. - The Terrace Bay Chamber is presently a member of the latter group. A letter will be sent to the Department of Tourism regarding information on publicizing coming events. Centennial information will be discussed with the Chairman, W.E.Cavanaugh. L.Cr andlemire volunteered to head the Publicity Committee and Mr.R.Sinotte will be in charge of membership. New business was discussed and a brief will be submitted to the (Continued page 10) Serving the District February 24, 1966 SUCCESSFUL ART WORKSHOP HELD HERE A workshop on figure drawing was held February 17-18 and 19th at the Recreation Centre. Mrs .Mary Battershell, president of the Terrace Bay Arts Club welcomed guests from out of town and local mem - bers and introduced the artist, Paul Page of Toronto who conducted the course. After a preliminary briefing the students began sketching from a model. Action poses were used as a warm-up, followed by longer poses and more detailed drawings progressing toward a complete gouache painting on Sunday. During coffee break on Sunday a film, Painters of Quebec, was shown by projectionist F .Sechesky. Miss Sharon St.Louis, a member of Teen Town, modelled for the entire weekend. Mr .Page, a graduate of the Ontario College of Art, is working as a full time painter, having a studio in Toronto. Although he teaches art there this is his first experience as a travelling teacher. He will travel to five other centres in Northwestern Ontario and says that if the enthusiastic reception encountered here is any indication, his tour will be very successful . The course was arranged by the Community Pro- grammes Branch of the Ontario Dept .of Education in conjunction with the Northwestern Art Associa- tion.
