LOCAL BOY ATTENDS SKI SCHOOL Lyle Nicol of Terrace Bay attended the Northwestern Ontario Ski Instruc- tors' School which ran from December 26th to 31st. Forty one took the clinic and four passed but these had taken it before. Chief examiner was Bob Mor- gan, now head of the ski school at Little Norway, assisted by Ray Kukko, Terry Axelson and Joan Redman. The course covered everything from basic fundamentals to advanced skiing and was the Canadian technique. For examinations we taught before groups of ten and taught something for each instructor and were marked on choice of terrain, method and demonstration. A ski off was held in which each stud- ent had to demonstrate a number of maneuvers before all four examiners when a final mark was given. During the course, three one hour lectures were given and here we collected our notes. The course concluded with a lunch- eon in the Chalet and certificates and awards were handed out. The trip was made possible by the Terrace Bay Recreation Association and Ski Club. The Ski School in Terrace Bay runs each Saturday and is for both adult and children members.
