Husser read the In- vocation. Plans were outlined for the coming year and Reeve Adamo believed that if all worked together in harmony, a good year was in the making. The first meeting of the new Council was held Tuesday afternoon, January 11th. HIGH SCHOOL CURLING PLAYDOWNS HERE Last weekend, Manitouwadge won all their games to advance to the Northwestern High School Playdowns in Ft.William Curling Club this weekend. THE HORNS WERE BLOWING ۩ AFTER THE ELECTION the CBC was praised by one writer because its team of commentators performed before a more beautiful backdrop than did the commentators on the privately-owned network. The writer was right but in the opinion of one viewer studio settings have nothing~ to. do with the excitement of an election night. They lose in immediacy what they gain in slickness. The critic enjoyed far more watching the Caouette victory procession making its way up a slippery hill on the way to the local TV studio. The horns were blowing, a satisfying sound to a city man with memories of small-town elections. Serving the District Januar 13, 1966 . Left to right - K.Thorsteinson,M.Hale, N.Crock- ford and A. THORSTEINSON RINK WINNERS The team to represent the Ladies Curling Club in the Zone playdowns was decided over the week- end when Kay Thorsteinson, skip; Mary Hale, third; Norma Crockford, second and Aggie Paulsen, lead, defeated the Peggy Wellings' rink of Ann Latour, Ida Romanuk and Lois Shubaly, two out of three games. The first game Saturday afternoon was taken in close competition by the Thorsteinson rink while Peggy came up a winner Saturday evening. A final game Sunday afternoon decided the represen- tative with the Thorsteinson rink coming out on top. Congratulations girls and the best of luck in the Zone Playdowns to be held in the Terrace Bay Curling Club this coming weekend of January 15th and 16th. There is a possibility that four district rinks will be competing to represent this zone in the Northwestern Curling Playdowns, so come out curlers and support your home team to victory. ~ CURLING NEWS In regular club play..the Ed West rink of J. Kelty, D. Rafalant and J.Commisso ended up on top of the heap after the second round of play. With two rounds to go and with a small point spread be- tween 'A' and 'B' groups, the Club Championship could be won by any one of a dozen or more rinks. Local 'British Consuls! playoffs will commence on Thursday of this week at 9.00 P.M. The four teams entered will be skipped by J.Dejonghe, L: Duquette, T.Olsen and J.MacDonald. A double round-robin will be played over the weekend and with the Ladies Zone Playoffs going on at the same time curling fans should see some good curling.
