Vol.7, No.49 | DIRECTOR OF FRENCH VISITS TERRACE BAY Monsieur Noell Bennet-Alder, Director of French for English speaking classes, Department of Educa- tion, visited with students at St.Martin's Separate School in Terrace Bay on Thursday. He is presently visiting English speaking classes in both Public and Separate Schools who are taking oral French classes sanction by the Department of Education. With his spontaneous personality, Mons.Bennet- Alder was enjoyed by both students and staff as he gave very vivid instructions using life-like situa- tions for his demonstrations. He is pictured above in, one of his demonstrations with Norma Chesley and Ronald Matuszak. Monsieur Bennet-Alder was accompanied to Ter- race Bay by Mr.O'Brien, Inspector of Separate Schools and Mr.Jim Gerow, Inspector of Public Schools accompanied him on to Manitouwadge. W. ADAMO ELECTED REEVE Lack of interest in the current municipal election is made evident by a comparison of the number exer- cising their franchise this year and last. This year W. Adamo was elected Reeve with a total of 215 votes while his opponent, A.Pattison tallied 205-- a close race. In last year's election 600 out of a possible 780 exercised their franchise and that was 77% of those eligible to do so. When interviewed Mr.Adamo said he was very pleased at the results and re-affirmed his promise to do his best as Reeve of the Township. Mr.Pattison said he appreciated the support he received at the polls-=said "it was a tight race" and wished the new Reeve and Council the best of success in 1965. He was keenly disappointed but said "I have not lost my interest in the municipal scene and will try again School Trustees e!ected are (Continued page 5) Serving the District December 10, 1964 DOUGLAS FISHER GUEST SPEAKER HERE Mr. Doug Fisher, Member of Parliament for Thun- der Bay, was the guest speaker Friday evening at the Kimberly-Clark Supervisory group dinner held in the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel. Introduced by Mill Manager, Mr.John Ferrier, Mr.Fisher spoke on "The altered role of personality and the party organ- ization in Canadian politics." With the ever-familiar blackboard he illustrated his points, dividing politicians into three main cate- gories. These groupings were: | - basically demo- cratic, 2 - basically elite or basically apathetic. Mr .Fisher explained each of his groups, bringing his listeners into close contact with parliamentary figures with pleasing and descriptive examples illus- trating the great need of the politician to be endow- ed with both the democratic and elite role. Concluding his speech, questions from the floor included one on the flag debate, his choice of the New Democratic Party, redistribution of ridings, whereupon he outlined very fully the benefits to parties of redistribution and also the adverse effect it has on some of the politicians. . Mr .Thor Olsen voiced the appreciation of the audience for the informal political picture shown by Mr.Fisher, inviting him for a return visit. TEEN TOWN ON FUND DRIVE In preparation for the 1965 Northwestern Ontario Youth Conference, the local Teen Club has begun a fund-raising campaign to meet the $1,000 budget they have set for the event. This week they will be selling Christmas Potato-chip packs from door to door and ask for your support. LET'S HELP THE KIDS !!
