Another Senior Class is scheduled for the New Year and competition work will also begin early in the New Year. It is hoped to have several teams compete for the Trophies this time, including juniors. CARD PARTY ENJOYED BY REBEKAHS Vice-Grand Mrs. Mary Husband was acting N.G. at the last meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge, replac- ing Mrs. H.McCanna who was unable to attend owing to the death of her father. P.D.D.P, Mrs. Mavis Slater was Acting V.G. Mrs.Helen Sharp of Beardmore was welcomed as a visitor and the Vice-Grand reported sending many cards and rose bowls to bereaved and sick members and calls made. A letter was received from St.John Ambulance thanking the Lodge for the use of the dishes. A donation was made to the East Thunder Bay T.B. Association. Mrs.A. Sinkins reported on a most successful new officer's tea, and members drew names of their un- known friends for the coming year. A Christmas Party was planned for December 9th following lodge meeting with an exchange of gifts. The 1.0.0.F. and ladies and Rebekahs and escorts are invited to the party. Mrs.W.Clemens will convene the pro- gram and Mrs. Jessie Macadam will show slides of her recent European trip. Following lodge a card game was enjoyed with the following winners:- Whist, Mrs. Jean Fisher and Mrs.Florence Fischer. Bridge, Mrs. A, Sinkins and Mrs.Alice Farrow. Mrs.Florence Whent's com- mittee served lunch. NO ELECTION THIS YEAR Results of nominations this year returned Fred B. Harness as Reeve for another year by acclamation. Ratepayeis were saved the expense of an election when J.Patrick Guina and H.J.McParland were returned by acclamation to serve another two years on township council while Wm.G.Furlonger and J.Neil Ross were re-instated for a two year term on the Public School Trustee slate. J.D.Phillips was again returned to the Hydro Commission - a clean slate by acclamation. A motorist who is a non-drinker can still be an impaired driver even though he has not had any alcohol. The title is Canada's Food Guide. THE NEWS ST. JOHN AMBULANCE (Continued from page a talk and demonstration on bandaging, including the 'butterfly' method. Visitors were Mr.Pat Burnell, Field Rep., from Sault Ste.Marie, who conducted a question and an- swer period and demonstration on Resusci-Ann and the revised method of Sylvester Artificial Respira- tion, and Mrs.Helen Jartus, Corps Staff Officer for Thunder Bay, who gave a talk on her recent trip to Ottawa where she was invested into the Order of St.John. She also showed pictures of the highlights of her trip including the actual presentation of the medal by Gov.General Vanier. She described the solemnity of the ceremony, which is religious in context, and the feeling of deep pride and humility in belonging to an organization such as St.John. The pageantry of history was present in the entrance of the Knights, colour bearers, the Sword and the ceremony of Knighting. She said the Governor General's gracious manner put everyone at ease as soon as he spoke to each one and mentioned the charm of Madame Vanier. Approximately 200 attended the banquet which preceded the Investiture which was held at Chateau Laurier Hotel. Thirty-five members of the Women's Overseas Corps of St.John attended, as a tribute to the late Miss Margaret MacLaren, former Supt.-in- Chief, with whom they had served overseas and whose portrait was unveiled at the dinner. Then buses transported those to be invested and their guests to Government House. Mrs. Jartus thanked the Schreiber Brigade for their good wishes prior to her departure and also for their co-operation during the past twelve years as they had also contributed greatly in order for her to win this award. She is very proud and humble to be so honoured==the first person in Northwestern Ontario, and particularly Schreiber, to be Invested by the Queen's Representative in Canada, His Excellency, Gov.Gen.G.Vanier. There are five other women in the Lakehead who also hold this honour . At a later meeting business was dispensed with and the Brigade paid tribute with a minute's silence in memory of the late Area Supt., Miss Gertrude Mitchell, who passed away Nov.|8th. Members had attended Remembrance Day Services at the. C enotaph with Ed Zielke laying the wreath. A letter was sent to Dr.Cornell before he left Schrei ber expressing thanks from the Brigade for his ser- vices during the time he lived here. Chuck Levigne will be in charge of first aid per- sonnel for hockey games at Schreiber and Terrace Ba and it was asked that the men report to him when they are available for duty. First Aid Instructors' Bulletins will be reported and discussed at each meeting in order to keep all mem- bers up-to-date. A discussion was held on Shock. Mrs. Althea Graham, Reg.N., Div.Nursing Offi- cer gave an interesting and informative talk on Poisons and a related discussion period was held. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 7th and this will be the only meeting for December.
