SWIM MEET 3 espite very cold and wet weather, the North Shore Swim Meet was held last Saturday at Marathon. The closest competition ever saw over 100 swimmers from Red Rock, Marathon and Terrace Bay matched for individual and team awards. Local contestants again fared very well in the individual events, but the team was once more handicapped by a lack of older swimmers. In the final point tabulations, Red Rock copped first place, with Marathon and Terrace Bay close behind in second an' third place. Only 17 points separated first and third place, which indicates the close competition. It is very disappointing to the younger swimmers, who try so hard, to see their ef- forts wasted by lack of support from the . older swimmers, especially in the Open events. We can only hope that, with more swimmers developing, we can find more contestants in these age groups in future years. Of the thirty-five young people who travel- led to Marathon, all did extrenely wel] as Terrace Bay took twelve firsts, nineteen sec- onds and eleven thirds in the forty-two events, Especially strong for the locals were Marilyn Marsh and Jim Shivas with three first place ribbons each, DON'tT FORGET THE TERRACE BAY MEET ON AUG, 22nd - ESPECIALLY YOU OLDER SWIMMERS.
