Photo by inez McCuaig "Activity For All" was the theme of the Annual » Field Day sponsored by the Schreiber Branch of the Canadian Legion on the Civic Holiday and the com- mittee in charge out did themselves in living up to this theme as prizes were presented to children for races, costumes, decorated bikes and doll carriages and to proud mothers of Baby Show winners. A parade started off the gala day and a cabaret dance climaxed the events. Winners in the children's races were (Ist and 2nd respectively):- Maureen McParland, Barbara Glad, Debby Bourk, Donna Desmoulins, Paddy Stokes, Jim McParland, Laureen Lavigne, Darlene Fummer- ton, Mark Stokes, Michael Souliere, Susan Johnson, Cathy Stokes, Bob Fummerton, Bill Hiller, Ray Suni, Vincent Pasqualino. In the ladies 60 yard dash Myrna McCuaig was the winner and Fred Eickmeier and Bob Campbell came in first and second in the 100 yard dash for men. In the boy's open mile R.Sweg and B.Nelson were winners and in the half mile they reversed with Bill Nelson first and Don second. Mary Speziale and Sandra Ross were first and second in the girl's sixty yard dash. | The races were managed by Bill Woodrow and Bill | Fraser with Jack Handel chairman for the day. Fancy Dress prizes in the parade were awarded to Aaron and Georgia Lynn Walsh, Michael Spillane, Donny Weaver, Cathy Cocks, Donna Lavigne and Dale Riley and Keith Scott. Donna Gellert had the best decorated pram, Valeria Ridsdale and Lenore O'Brien the best decorated tricycles and Bruce Hiller and Shane Riley the best decorated bikes. Costume judges were Mrs. Ross Hill, Mrs . Bill Stefurak and Mrs. Bern Jacomb. Judges for the Baby Show were nurses Mrs .Gino Caccamo and Mrs Sheila Boste who awarded prizes to Michelle Roy, Molly Blanchette, Peter Zimmer- man, Cathy Borutski, Laurie Nesbitt, (Continued) TELEPHONE AND HYDRO SERVICE DISRUPTED Bell Telephone cables and one Hydro wire were snapped at the corner of Erie and Ontario Streets when the boom on a back hoe on a truck owned and operated by R. Yates of Columbia Street, Schreiber, failed to make clearance with the result that power service was disruped for several hours and phone ser- vice for two and one half days last week. Crews of service men were rushed from Nipigon and the Lakehead to assist local service men who worked feverishly to repair the damage. A chimney on the home of Wm. Cocks, Ontario Street, was also damaged. Insurance adjusters place the damage at approxi- mately $2500. The Schreiber Police Department have laid a charge of failing to report an accident against the driver of the truck.
