Page 8 COUNCIL QUOTES Deputy Reeve V £. Thomson presided at Tuesday's regular meeting of town council in the municipal chambers. Two letters from irate resi-. dents were read concerning tis lack of effective dog catching and the problems created by dogs running at large. Each member of Council also had re- ceived verbal complaints. After due consideration, it was decided to release J. Sweet as dog catcher at the end of this quarter and advertise for a replacement. The secretary said it had not been necessary to borrow from the bank as authorized by by- law at the last meeting, due to receipt of the balance of Kim- berly-Clark taxes. Replying to J. Thomas' en- quiries regarding electrical wir- ing and equipment, council felt this to be the responsibility of the Aguasabon golf course. Several purchases were deem- ed necessary for the continued good operation of the Snack Bar and recreation director Ken Ward requested permission to buy a dishwasher, stainless steel sinks ,filing cabinet and adding machine. The two representatives to the recreation committee said the THE sinks are an immediate neces- sity. Council agreed to their purchase, when profits permit. A formal motion approved the Centennial park project for Ter- race Bay, designating the area between the Community church and the Norwood motel for this purpose. Council will first try to obtain the required property involved. Councillor Cavanaugh forward- ed a request by the Knights of Columbus to erect a cross at the Catholic eemetery. He was to look into 'existing bylaws and report back to council. Spacing at the cemetery is not adequate, Councillor Brown stated. Councillor Brown had put out tenders for the new police of- fice, but no satisfactory bid was made, and further advertising was authorized. Enquiries about levelling off streets now that the paving is completed were made by Coun- cillor Fraser. Councillor Brown noted it would be graded as soon as equipment is available. He said street signs were paint- ed and erected again. A dis- cussion on changing of street signs wound up affairs of coun: cil. ST. INQUEST JURY ADVOCATES LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT Coroner, Dr. T.J. Harvey, M.D., of Nipigon presided over a Jury which met on Thursday, June 25th to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death by drowning in Hayes Lake, of James Jioseph Kilby of Terrace Bay. A decision of "accidental drowning" was reached and the jury recommended "that life jackets be worn, or similar equipment, approved by the Dept. of Transport. This should be more highly stressed in canoes and similar small boats. We, the jury, further recommend that persons should not be alone when attempting to fish, go boating, or any similar type of sport. The above recommendations by the jury point up the fact that life saving jackets etc. are not compulsory for canoes or small boats but they believe the regulations should be extended to include them, Attending the inquest and giving evidence were Russ Downey, Art Reynolds and Leslie Sarka of Terrace Bay. The investigation was conducted by Corp,, W.M. Duncan and Const. Keith Scott, of the Schreiber detachment, 0.P.P.
