Photo by Inez McCuaig SCHREIBER RINK WINS WOMEN'S BONSPIEL Mrs. J.D.Bryson threw the opening rock and Aline Bedard played the Road To The Isles to open the women's bonspiel. Fifteen rinks were entered from Fort William, Red Rock, Rossport and Terrace Bay. The first event was taken by Frankie Caccamo's rink of Joy Riley, Elsie Ross, Maureen Phillips and runner-ups were Min.McCuaig, Joan Weaver, Dot Kinney and Brenda Lidkea. Dene Clancy (Terrace Bay) won the second event | with B.Knight, D.Josus and A.Paulson. Runner-up was N.Gray, F.Hubelit, F. Crawley and G .Madigar. Juanita Gellert took the third event with C.Powers, E.Niemi and J.MacCuaig. Runner-up (Red Rock) A.Mabelson, E.Skabar, J.Skabar - 4th not identi- fied. First rink knocked out was skipped by Lena Holmes. Bern Jacomb and Nell Gray were co-chairman for the spiel . The prizes were: Ist event - electric can openers, | curling clocks, ashtray lamps, curling vases-~2nd event - crystal vases, handbags, curling ashtrays, cigarettes and lighters--3rd event - hassocks, vapo- rizers, ashtrays, mugs. Arink of special interest entered in the 'spiel was the Kanneigeizer sisters' rink from Ft .William-- Mrs. M.Murphy (Freda), Mrs. J.Whent (Bluebelle), Mrs. L.Nalezyty (Duan), Mrs. J.Harvey (Bea) - all natives of Schreiber. The event ended with a banquet in the Guild Hall served by the C.W.L. and a social evening when several amusing skits were presented: a ballad of the Yokon by E.McCouan, F .Caccamo, D.Hewson, F .Duggan, E.Ross, M.Phillips, J.Gellert, Carol Powers and J.Cornell. (See picture above) The many other lovely gifts and some cash pre- sents, were given to the baby in a basket beauti- fully decorated by Mrs. A.W. Slater . Mrs. Nelson Smith presided for the meeting, the members answering the roll call with baby gifts. Minutes and correspondence were read by Mrs. W.J.Thrower and the treasurer's report given by Mrs. F.Harness. Mrs. W.Miller, card secretary, read many thank-you notes from those remembered by the W.1. Mrs. Bill Weaver and Mrs. Jerry Godin were wel- comed as guests. A donation was made to the Mental Health Association and Mrs. Miller stated the draw prizes had been won by Mrs. C .Hubelit of Rossport (the comforter) and Mrs. Joe Campbell (the blanket). Roll call at the March meeting will be answered by displaying a contrived vegetable hat. A valentine lunch was served from a table centred with a special baby cake topped with a candy rattle, made by Mrs. J.Corbett, great-grandmother of the baby of the year. FATHER CANO ADDRESSED P.T.A. lar meeting of the Catholic Parent-Teachers' Assoc. on February 20th with R.T.Campbell presiding. Minutes and correspondence were read by Mrs.D. McGuire and the financial statement given by Mrs. A.Bourguignon. Mr.Campbell and Raymond Guillet (the latter of the school staff), were appointed as delegates to the Diocesan convention being held in Toronto in March. (Continued next page)
