Mrs.Fournier asked for better lighting on Walker St. particularly now since lynx have been seen in the area. After lengthy discussion it was agreed to accept the OPP Police contract and change the council police commission from a one to a three-man board. Reeve Harness appointed councillors N .J.Jolicoeur and J.P.Guina to act with him. Meetings will be arrang- ed with Corp.Duncan when problems will b e diseus- sed as they arise, in an effort to arrive at better understanding and co-operation. Mr .Jolicoeur was delegated to effect the exchange of the town half-ton panel truck for that of the Fire Dept.'s half-tone pickup--also to award the paint job involved and replace tires on the town ambulance A special meeting with the Hydro Commission was arranged for February 13. Councillors McGrath and Jolicoeur reported meeting with CPR representatives to discuss screening and other proposed replacements and renovations at the town water intake. Through the board of health, Dr .Cornell suggested | the purchase of an audio meter for use on school children. Generally, it was felt that a local service club might be interested in adding this to their valued contributions to community welfare. Mr .Jolicoeur was delegated to secure prices for spraying the town against fly and mosquito pests since, in particularly bad seasons, these are a very real hazard to young children. The March of Dimes committee are most apprecia~ tive of the public's generous reponse to their drive for funds on Feb. 1st when $366.76 was collected. Mrs.J.R.Rummery was Chairman with Mesdames Joe Campbell, Bill Mullins, D'Arcy McGuire, Russell Macadam; and Oscar Laine as captains. In all 50 women worked on the March. There will be a shower tea in honor of Mrs.Michae Morgan, nee Audrey McCuaig, on Feb.19, from 8-10 in the United Church Hall . Mrs .Greg McLellan was hostess for a shower party for Mrs. Michael Morgan when twenty relatives and friends brought kitchen utensils as gifts. Amusing games were played and Miss Brenda Lidkea and Mrs. Barry Walsh assisted the hostess in serving lunch. Mr.& Mrs. Alec Gordon were in Fort William on Saturday to attend the 25th wedding anniversary celeb ration of Mr.and Mrs. Chas .Firman--Mrs . Gordon and Mrs.Firman are the former Eva and Marjorie Brown, respectively . J.D.Phillips and L.R.McCuaig were in Pt.Arthur to attend the Progressive Conservative riding con- vention on Saturday. Mrs .Bill Lidkea and Mrs.Ken Davis are in Ottawa visiting Mr.and Mrs. Melvin Davis who recently moved there from Dartmouth, N.S. Mrs. David Nesbitt and Miss Lorraine Nesbitt will visit Mrs. Walter Ilijow in McKellar Hospital this week. Walter Ilijow is already in Fort William. W.S.Harris, J.Winters, In.West and Bob Riley are all in Terrace Bay Private Hospital . Mr .& Mrs.W.Sheehan, who have left Schreib er for a new home in Sudbury, were feted by friends at a 'travelling party' held in homes on Alberta St.whe a cut glass cake plate was presented to Mrs .Sheehan . Earlier, the station staff had presented a purse to Walter with their good wishes. There will be a congregational social on Saturday evening, February 22nd, at 8 P.M. in the United Church Hall, in honor of Mr.and Mrs. W.R. Burroughs]. The World Day of Prayer was observed in St. Andrew's United Church with the following leading the service:- Mesdames F .Muldrew, R.J.S.Inshaw, J.D.Bryson, J.B.Ridsdale, N.Smith, A.E .Rigels- ford, R.G.Macadam and G.Madigan. Mrs. Alex Gordon sang a solo accompanied by Miss Diane Rummery . A moment's silence was observed in affectionate tribute to the late Mrs. Tom Arnot who had been in charge of this service from its inception until now. Steve Morrill was home for the weekend from Toronto and Phil Inshaw from North Bay. Corp. and Mrs. W.Duncan were called to Peter- borough by the death of the latter's mother . Mrs .Bill Kinney has returned from Chapleau where she was called on the death of her father . Miss Ora Mae Harness and Miss Mary Hazuda of Ft .William visited the Fred Harness family recently. Richard, older son of Mr.and Mrs.W.R. Burroughs, is in St.Joseph's Hospital, Port Arthur, having plas- tic surgery on the foot damaged by frostbite. Bill Jones chaired the regular meeting of the C.P. & T. committee when plans were made to hold a mystery bingo om March 13 and a white elephant SOCIAL PLANNED BY REBEKAH LODGE Mrs.Orel Wright, N.G. and Mrs. J.McCanna, V.G., presided for the meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge on February 12. Minutes and correspondence were read by Mrs. Beth Macadam and following treasurer's statement by MrS-J.Macadam, outstand- ing accounts were passed for payment. The vice- grand reported flowers and cards sent to sick mem- bers and many calls paid. A social was announced to follow (Continued)
