January HYDRO COMMISSION LIGHTING CONTEST Prizes in the Schreiber Hydro Commission lighting contest were awarded as follows:- First Prize - Mr. Jack McCouan for his display which was effective by day and night. Second Prize - Mr. R. Kragero for a pleasing over- all lighting display. Third Prize - Dr. J. M. Cornell for his display which was exceptionally well done and in full view of the travelling public. SOUVENIR CRAFTS COURSE AT QUETICO Souvenir crafts are a multimillion dollar business," C.M. McIntosh, director of the Quetico Conference and Training Centre said in announcing a 3-week course for the manufacture of Souvenir Crafts. The course runs from January 11 to March 30, 1964. Costs of the course are being covered under the Federal=-Provincial agreement for retraining umem- ployed, co-sponsored with the Port Arthur Board of Education. Anyone unemployed is eligible to attend the course which offers three options, ceramics, woodcraft and graphics. If a married person wishes to attend and his or her spouse earns less than $60.00 per week, that person will be eligible for subsistence allowance to cover the cost of board and lodging. If the spouse earns more than $60.00 per week, board and lodging must be paid by the trainee. Details on the subsis- tence allowance requirements and registration proce- dure are available from any National Employment Service office or the Quetico Centre at Atikokan. In addition to one of the options, every participant will receive training in business practice and mar- keting. - Sessions on business practice will include bookkeeping, purchasing, cost analysis and controls and pricing. In the marketing area, students will learn packaging, displaying, advertising, product outlets and customer relations.
