August 29, 1963 COUNCIL QUOTES Council met Monday evening in the Municipal Chambers presided over by Reeve J.P. Heenan. Councillors Valiquette and Wellings approved the minutes of the previous meeting as read by Secretary W.F. Strutt. Fire and Police reperts for the month of © July were submitted by Fire Chief R. Hofland and Chief Constable H., Billings. Correspondence included a letter from W. A. Ryder of Paving Ltd., advising that the work to be done in Terrace Bay was so small it wouldn't be economically advisable to accept it Reeve Heenan wrote to Lt. D.W. Betcner advising that the manoeuvers proposed during October 12 to 14th in Terrace Bay had been approved by the Council. Recreation account in the amount of $5,889.87 for the month of July was perused and passed for payment. Mr. Strutt outlined the arrangements com- pleted to date for the forthcoming meeting of the Thunder Bay District Municipal League which will be held Thursday evening in the Municipal Chambers. Council discussed further arrangements and the Reeve remarked on the annual meeting he had attended in Port Arthur last spring. A report of receipts and disbursements up to the end of July was submitted by the Secre- tary, who will continue to submit monthly reports. Council discussed at length their mid-year standing on each of the Town's accounts as clearly outlined in the report. Reeve Heenan was pleased to see they were operating well within the budget. Further works during the year were proposed and Councillor Wellings will bring in an estimate on the cost of extending sewer and water approximately ten lots on Lakeview Drive. Advice of the town's Electrical Supervisor, D. Boudreau will be sought, together with estimates on removal of the curbing on the north east end of Simcoe Plaza, to determine possibility of widening the street before winter. Councillor Valiquette recommended additional road signs be erected on the eastern approaches to town, which were often misleading to tourists. - COMMUNITY CHURCH L.A.
