« THE _ July 11, 1963 PRESENTATION MADE TO FIRE DEPT. In a brief and informal presentation Mon- day evening at the Terrace Bay Fire Hall, Mr. G. Maitland, Mill Fire Chief, turned over a Library of Fire Protection Standards for Fire Departments to Mr. A, Fraser, Chairman of the Terrace Bay Fire Commission, Mr. Fraser then made a presentation of the Library to the Terrace Bay Fire Department, accepted by Fire Chief R, Hofland, The Library had been presented to the Terrace Bay Fire Department in 1953 when Mr, | Maitland had been Town and Mill Fire Chief | and was awarded for First Place Canadian | Class "F" winner in that year's N.F.P.A. Fire Prevention Week Contest by the Dominion Fire Prevention Association, signed D. Kemp, Pres. Presentation had been made in 1953 by Mr. C. Thompson, Dominion Fire Commissioner, now retired, Elmer Persson, on behalf of the Terrace Bay Fire Department, asked Mr. Maitland to accept their gift of a framed color photo of the fire truck, with their best wishes on his retirement. Fire Chief Hofland added a short tribute, thanking Mr. Maitland for his support without which he would not have done as well as he had in many ways. Responding, Mr. Maitland showed his appreciation of their choice, which he would cherish while miles away and thanked them all for their loyalty to him and to the town. Councillor Valiquette urged further study of the proposed sidewalk through some portion of the shopping centre, and this too, would be followed through. Reeve Heenan stated that according to the Munici- pal Act a balance sheet must appear in the paper, and Secretary Strutt informed him this had been qttended to. With the erection of signs on the Highway, trailer parking did. not obscure the Stop signs, though a greater distance had been desired. Replying to Reeve Heenan, Councillor Wellings reported work would proceed on the lagoon, now awaiting the engineer's advice. Bell Telephone Company had decided to build an addition on their property so the agreement to sell was cancelled. Council were in receipt of a letter from Mr. J. Ferrier, Mill Manager, requesting a double line or no passing sign over the bridge. Council were well aware of the need for either of these precautions, substantiated by two accidents at the Millroad entrance in the past week, and many near accidents. | However their requests to the Department of Highways | had been denied in the past on the grounds that double lines are reserved for curves of where visibility is iess than 660 feet. The Reeve would again notify the District Engineer, Mr. Snell, of the situation. Councillor Wellings noted mowing was being done around town, and reported on the new spray being
