POLICE MOVE TO CURB TOBACCO SALES Action is being taken by the Terrace Bay Police Dept. to curb the use of tobacco products by children under sixteen. The following is a copy of a letter being distributed in the Town by the Police Department. Due to the increasing use of tobacco products by Juveniles and in view of recent publicity by the CANADIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, it is deemed expedient to enforce the TOBACCO RESTRAINT ACT within Terrace Bay. Every morning we have a fresh supply of sticks and stones in our new pool, thrown over the fence by youngsters whose parents have not taken the time to talk to them about vandalism. Newly - painted walls have been marked with footprints, crayon and chalk. Bottles and stones have been thrown on ball fields, play areas and sidewalks. SWIM CLASS REGISTRATIONS Once again, swim classes will be held for anyone of school age or older, (Continued on Pa Serving the District ne FINGERLING'S PLANTED AT SLATE ISLANDS The last film show until after the summer holidays ouncil members of the Terrace Bay Chamber of Commerce were informed by Ray Kenney that the Dept. of Lands and Forests have planted Trout Fingerlings at Slate Islands. Present at the meeting held in the Recreation Centre on June 6th were J. Kelty, W. Colborne, R. Kenney, N. Cornthwaite, Vice-Pres. L. Waghorn, Sec. Treas. |.R. Marsh, A. Valiquette, K. McLeod, R. Hirt, A. Childerhose and D. Brearley. The meeting was called to order by L. Waghorn, Vice-President and the minutes were read by the secretary. Correspondence was dealt with and a discussion on the brochure ended with a committee of N. Cornthwaite, J. Kelty, K. McLeod and W. Colborne being appointed to investigate publi- cation of an annual newspaper type of pamphlet. R. Kenney reported on the brief being prepared on Lake Superior fishing and W. Colborne reported on latest developments on a local radio transmitter. J. Kelty reported that brushing out at the Gorge is completed and it is now possible to take excellent pictures of the Gorge with Lake Superior in the background. He also reported that the car banner is completed and was used at the Sault Bridge opening. Financial help for the Kiwanis Fish Derby was requested by the Club's representative, Ken McLeod. This was granted on the same basis as last year. A. Valiquette reported that Township Council have studied the Civic Committee's report and are giving it every consideration. D. Brearley attended as an appointed Represen- tative from the Kiwanis Club and will continue to do so. N.. Cornthwaite announced the new hours at the Aguasabon Lounge and Jackpine Room of the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel . Both Mr. Kenney and Mr. Colborne had conducted programs in the school to impress students with the need of keeping our town clean and tidy and de- fining vandalism. In St. Martin's Separate School Gr. 8 students had done posters on the subject. Regular meetings of Council will not be held during July and August.
