'} ANNUAL-C OF C DINNER SET FOR MARCH 10th A General Meeting of the Terrace Bay Chamber of Comm- erce, was held last Monday evening in the Recreation Centrets meeting room, presided over by Mr, C.E.Paget. Minutes of the formation meeting of the Chapter were read by Secretary, J.D. Kelty, together with items of : -_ correspondence, -- Mr, Paget reported to members on the affiliation on with' the. Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and Pecnsves formal authorization. . Membership Chairman, Mr. L, Waghorn, reported that the local Chamber, now had a paid up membership of thirty, and listed members for the benefit of those present, It was announced that the annual dinner meeting will be held Saturday, March 10th and that Miss Mary Lou Houston had been appointed Chairman of the Committee handling this function. It was further pointed out that an annual dinner meeting is planned and under ordinary circumstances will be held just after the beginning of the membership year, This year's function has been delayed as it was necessary to wait until the Charter was received. Miss Houston advised the meeting, that the March 10th function will take the form of Charter Night, with a Dinner and Dance to take place at the Moose Hell, commencing at 6:00 P.M. The Ladies of the Moose will do the catering. The guest speaker will be Mr. A. Phillips, Chairman of the Northwestern Ontario Develop- ment Association, It is expected that a number of out-of-town guests will be present, as invitations have been extended to Chambers from as far east as Marathon, and west to _ the Lakehead. The President urged local mambers to attend this event. __Guest speaker for the evening, Police Chief H, Billings, addressed the meeting on the dangers of cashing cheques during the Tourist Season, He acknowledged that this has not been a prob-. lem in the past but suggested that with the greatly increased traffic through town the number of criminals is almost - bound to increase. He intro- -- duced the group to a forn, which persons wishing to cash a cheque are required to fill out. This form has been used with considerable success in many areas, and Local Merchants were prompted to seriously consider adopting it.
