MERCURIES WIN N.S.H.L.CHAMPIONSHTP On Saturday night, before a record crowd, -in the Terrace Bay Arena, the powerful Mer- - curies turned back the Nipigon Flyers with a 10.to.4 score in seventh and final game in the N.S.H.L. League Playoffs, The Mercuries now take on the Fort Frances Canadians in a best of five series for the Thunder Bay crown. The first two games are to be played in Fort Frances on March 20th and 22nd then the series moves back to the North Shore for Tuesday and Thursday, March 24th and 26th. These games could possibly be played in the Terrace Bay Arena, Marathon Mercuries, we understand, have Dave- Whalen and Marvin Osmar of Terrace Bay Superiors, playing for them against Fort ~ Frances. Another North Shore Lisle playoff goes down in history. The Mercuries ended regular league play with a substantial lead but a fighting Nipigon Club came from the cellar to knock last year's Champs, the Red Rock Royals, out of the semi-finals in four straight games then went on to a last ditch fight with the Mercuries in seven games to give hockey fans one of the best playoff ser- ies in -- North Shore 'finals. --_-- - 7 -------------- Vol.2, No.11: * NEWS March 19, 1959 ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY CLINIC The Royal Life Saving Society, Ontario Branch, in co-operation with the Community Programmes Branch of the Ontario Department of Education, will sponsor a clinic on Fri- day evening, March 20th and Saturday after- noon and evening, March 21st, 1959, at the Fort William Y.M.C.A.
