ANNUAL REPORT FROM MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH ~The following report upon the health and sanitary conditions of our community for the year ending December 3lst, 1958; has been issued by Dr.D.J.M.McCausland, Medical Officer of Health, "In general, "we.have been fortunate during the year in having little infectious disease and the health of the population has been good, Examination of new pupils was carried out in both grade schools throughout the year and visits made as well by the school nurse and myself for the purpose of immunization, Rou-- tine examinations of various grades for infes- tation, throat conditions, vision defects and -any abhormality noticed by the teacher were 'made 'at intervals, | } | | { Immunization against poliomyelitis which is begun.at six months of age is carried on throughout the year as well as the usual pro- ! tection against diphtheria, whooping cough and a | tetanus for pre-school and school age child- ren, The adult immunization against polio has | been rather slow in catching on but is gaining | As you may know, the provincial government has now begun the manufacture and | distribution of a new vaccine for children which incorporates Rep vaccine as well as I the D{/R,\T. | There have been cule minor outbreaks of measles, German measles and mumps and only one | case of scarlet fever during the year, All schools were found to be in excellent | i | } | sanitary condition, As in previous years, a weekly inspection of the North Camp facilities was made as well as an occasional inspection' of the local res- taurant located in the Rec.Centre. These. inspections have shown satisfactory sanitation in every case. All water samples submitted from the town supply have been reported _ by the provincial laboratory, During 1958, there were 55 births to resi- dents of Terrace Bay in. our hospital and a total of 144 births.
