HOE DOWN CLUB Last year we had a fairly active club, consisting of about 30 regular members who came out for their dances twice a month. They were raising their own funds to pay the orchestra and caller each week, This year this activity functioned with very little interest up to November, then it discontinued. I feel that when interest re-appears and the need is apparent, we again will have a Hoe Down Club, This activity would appear to be one where interest in folk dancing is at a peak and then will drop out of existence, which is evident from the results in other towns. Last year this group was carried by the older folk. We could see that the younger people were not showing any interest in this type of dancing, and feel this is the reason it has dropped in popularity. No doubt it (Cont. on next col.) "will be.popular again in our town, and at Page 7 RECREATION FLYER (Cont. ) } such time the club will be re-organized, TEEN TOWN For the past two summers we have been ee operating a successful 3-month Teen and Twenty Club. Our enrollment went up to 80 members last summer, and they handled all their own business affairs, From memberships and admission charges to dances, etc., their bank account showed a balance of $85.00, We were very pleased to see that the Club drew members from Schreiber, Rossport and Marathon. They mt every Saturday night for a dance under supervision of their own choice and our approval. In December of this past year, the Recreation Director met with a group of these teen- agers.to discuss the possibility of a year- "round Teen Age Club, which we hope will develop into a Senior Teen and Jwmior Teen Club. This coming year will determine whether or not the group can manage and continue a year-'round club. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FILMS We were fortunate last year to have a series of films sent to us monthly from the Fort William Library. These films were of an educational nature, and not light comedy films, One excellent film was the Canadian Navy's contribution to the Coronation. The films were offered to the schools for their Own use, as well as to adult groups, Each month, upon their arrival, we have a. showing for the children after school hours. Adult attendance during the past summer was up as high as 85 for a showing. The children's attendance was anywhere from 50 to 100 per showing, WILF CARTER SHOW Last summer we brought in Wilf Carter, one of Canada's top cowboy singers, This show was very well attended by both Terrace Bay and Schreiber people. The Recreation Committee turned the sponsorship over to our local Softball team, They carried the load on the planning and-arrangements and did a good job, The attendance for this show was in the 300 bracket, (Cont. next week) 0-0-0
