TRIBUTE MADE TO REVEREND DOCTOR ARTHUR LAVENDER A very touching and sincere tribute was paid Sunday evening to Reverend Dr. Arthur Lavender when the regularly scheduled Fireside Hour was turmed into a reception in his honour. Two hundred and twenty-five persons were present: from his _ Own Congregation in the Terrace Bay Community Church; Reverend and Mrs, J. W. Cruickshanks of Schreiber and a large number of his friends and former parishioners from Schreiber, as well as friends of other faiths; all of whom wished to convey to the Reverend Doctor their congratulations on his recent honourary degree, _ Completely surprised by the huge congregation that did away with the usual roping off of the back pews for the evening service, and the reception that followed, Dr. Lavender, though warmly touched, soon responded with his genial light humour, Mrs, John Wade, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, on their behalf presented Dr. Lavender with a gift of a camera as a token of the appreciation for the help and guidance he has given throughout his years here and the hope that Terrace Bay will continue to have him a good many more years, Reverend Cruickshanks of Schreiber also spoke briefly, both seriously and humourously of Dr. Lavender's qualifications for his Doctor of Divinity Degree, With Mr. Ernie Rowson as chairman.of the evening's programme, the choir first rendered the anthem, "The Magnificat", and the male quartette of Bert Lohr, Ernie Rowson, Bit! Megraw and Bob Harris sang two pieces, Al Harrison showed a series of beautifully coloured slides he had taken on his recent trip to Mexico, and the choir concluded with the singing of "God Be With You Till We Meet Again", Tea was poured by Miss Louie Lavender sister of Dr. Lavender, and Mrs. Cruick- shanks of Schreiber, and the evening closed with a lovely luncheon served by members of the choir. 0-0-0 X-RAY CLINIC COMING JUNE 4TH (Cont.)
