REVEREND ARTHUR ee TO HECEIVE DOCTOR OF DIVINITY DEGREE ei Reverend oe Lavender of the terrace Bay Commmity Church on Friday April 20th will receive an Honourary Doctor of Divinity Degree at the United Theological College at Winnipeg. This degree being conferred on Reverend Lavender for his many years of outstanding service to the Ghurch. Reverend Arthur Lavender came to Canada in 1911 as a student Minister with 27 other young men to do missionary work of the Church in the Canadian West. It is interesting to note that out of those 27 young men Reverend Lavender is the oniy remaining active Minis- ter of the Church. And as such he has been an active Minister for forty-five years. As a student minister he served at Rad- ville, Viceroy, Ogema, Outram, Saskatchewan, and Elm Orerk, Manitoba. The Reverend Arthur was ordained a Min: ister in Regina after attending College at the United College in Winnipeg. And as a Minister he served in the following local- ities: Kelwood, Cardale, Hartney, Roland, Manitoba and Emo, Ontario, In 1939 he cate to Schreiber, Ontario, and in 1946 he began to service the needs of Terrace Bay until . 1949 when he became the Resident Minister of the Terrace Bay Community Church, It will take little imagination on the part of anyone to appreciate the hardships in serving as a Minister in the Canadian West in those early days Reverend Lavender te at 61 Laurier Avenue with his sister Miss Louie Lavender, He has two sons, Walter, Principal of the Mapie Leaf High School in Torento, and Emerson, Teacher of History at the Richmond Hill High School, near Toronto, A son stanley passed away in December 1952, For all the years the Reverend Arthur has served his fellow man he still keeps himself busy anc ac Locally he is in demand as a public speaker, Recently he spoke to the Kiwanis Club on the subject of Peace, and a more inspiring talk on the subject is difficult to imagine. He is incidentally a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Terrace Bay. His ability as.a speaker is an inspirin,: experience as is evident in his weekly sermons, So it is with great personal honour that Beverend Arthur Lavender will receive a Doctor of Divinity Degree on April 20th at the United College in Winnipeg, and it is an honour also for the community of Terrace Bay. On behalf of everyone in Terrace Bay we would take the privelege of congratulating the Reverend Arthur upon this outstanding occas- ion in his long service in the Christian Church, 'tive.
