OLSEN RINK WIN NORTHWEST ZONE CURLING PLAYDOWNS ; On Saturday and Sunday, January 28th and 29th the Terrace Bay rink of T, Olsen O. Olsen, N. West and H. Solly, chalked up a no loss record to win the Zone Curling Playdown,. There were five rinks in this playdown. Marathon, Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Red Rock and Nipigon. These rinks represented the best curlers on the North Shore, The Terrace Bay rink won all of their games advancing them to the District Playdowns. this weekend February 3rd, Ath and 5th. The Terrace Bay rink had little dif- ficulty winning against Marathon, Schrieber or Red Rock, but the game against Nipigon was one to be remembered, All games were 12 ends and in the game with Nipigon the Terrace rink were behind from the second end up to the eleventh end.when they tied it up. Bill Dwyer from Nipigon had the last rock on the last end which of course is a terrific advantage in a tied game, However the Olsen rink curled real sharp on this end, putting the shot rock in and_ then placing guard after guard. Bill Dwyer, the Nipigon skip, had a tough choice with 'this last rock, He chose to draw in to win, but he was too heavy on his draw; Terrace counted three to win, The Terrace Bay rink curled very well in all their games, Their team work séemed superb and an "out-of-towner" be was overheard to say that if they can con- tinue to curl like that they could take the District Playdowns next Mee Let's hope this is so, The result of the Zone plaguoee was$ (Cont. on next col.) WINNER Spectators from Schreiber and Terrace Bay were on hand Wednesday, January 25th at the Schreiber curling rink to watch the Terrace Bay rink emerge victor in the phayoffs for the Ladies Northwestern entry from this district. Plans call for six zone winners to be represented in this tournament. All spectators are more than welcome, BONSPIEL The Terrace Bay Ladies Curling Bon- spiel will be held immediately following the Northwestern playdowns, February 11th, and 12th. Deadline for entries - Feb. lst. This also includes all personnel or members who are not curling and wish to attend the Saturday evening Banquet.. NIPIGON BONSPIEL Irene Edmond's rink came home wearing smiles of victory, They won the lst prize in the 2nd event at the Nipigon Bonspiel over the weekend, (Cont. on page 11)
