MEN'S BASKETBALL Terrace Bay 58 ...... Marathon 40 On Thursday, December 8th, 1955, Terrace Bay's Senior Men's Basketball. team opened its 1955-56 season with a convincing 58-40 victory, over a scrappy Marathon five, Starting out slowly, Terrace Bay found the range midway through the first half and at. halftime held a comfortable 32-20 lead. Marathon caused some concern during the first half with a fancy display of long-range shooting, but Terrace Bay tightened its de- fenses and stopped them before too much damage could be done... Time after time the Terrace Bay players found themselves free under the Marathon basket and as a result, scored many easy baskets. The second half was much like the first with the home team outrebounding, outshooting and oute hustling its shorter opponents and ending up on the long end of a 58-40 score. Pacing the local five in scoring were G, Sievers with 22 points and A, Harrison with 14, Elford led Marathon with 12 points while Lapa and Cook followed behind with 10 points each. In the final analysis, Mara- thon could not overcome Terrace Bay's Height advantage nor could they match the good defensive rebounding of J. Dawson, J. Morrison and A, Pattison. Every man on the home five saw plenty of action and each is to be com- mended for his play. With a few more games under their belts, the men of Terrace Bay will be able to hold their own against any team in this area, At the present time we are trying to bring in some teams from the Lakehead to give our team a real test, If and when these arrangements are made, an announcement will appear in the Terrace Bay "News" stating the date and time of any future games, The Lineups: Terrace Bay Points Marathon Points Harrison Busniuk 2 Miller 2 Opie - Cosgrove - Lapa 1O Morrison . 6.
