Today there was a report of a fire in the city of Montreal, a mother and her three children lost their lives in the fire, It is not the'- purpose of this write-up to deal with . the deplorable loss of adult life whigh has been involved but of the horrifying fact that so many helpless children are burned or hurt. The number of children who have had to be rescued or have ese caped by their own efforts is grimly impressive of the ever-present danger. Newspapers and Radios disclose the fact that since the beginning of the year, 1955, there have been fires in Ontario in which fifty children are mentioned as having been involved in one way or another. Doubtless they were involved in other fires which no mention is made on the Radio or in the newspapers, This record concerns children only and it would have been worse had it not been for heroic rescuers. Some of whom burned in saving the lives of children, These were taken to safety by people of all ages, by a boy of 16, by parents, by a Grand-father, and by other relatives and in some cases by good neighbours, Some mothers dropped their children from windows to people below or' dropped themselves carrying a child.
