THOUSANDS ENJOY "STARS ON IGE" by_B, Austin Close to 5,000 people streamed into the Terrace Bay Memorial Recreation Centre Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, Dec, 4th and 5th to witness the ice revue "Stars on Ice" presented by the Port Arthur Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club, and directed by. Miss Priscilla Snow, Club Professional. This skating extravaganza, rated hy all as being one of the best ever seen, lasted two hours, Artistic blade perfection, interspersed with comedy, together with coloured ice, elaborate backdrop, and beautiful costumes, made this event one of the most enjoyable and popular attractions ever to appear in Terrace Bay. From the very colourful and spritely number of "Bonnie Highlanders" the show moved to "Tango Rhythms" illustrating the smooth and graceful movements of ice dancing by Betty Ann Davidson and Bill Trimble. "Danish Delight" proved to be one of the eye catchers of the evening with Heather Martyn, playing the part of the "Danish Miss" and capturing the hearts of the entire crowd, Dancers in Danish costumes whirled around the ice to the strains of Wonderful Copenhagen, Petite little 7 year old Jennifer Wilkin, stole the show with her very excellent rendition of "Thumbelina", This sweet little Miss captured the audience with her skating |. skill and showmanship. "The Pert Miss", Susan Ferguson, skimmed the ice surface with the ease and grace and skating ability of a professional. "Peter Pan" proved to be a number for young and old alike as it told the very enchanting story of "Tinkerbell" skated by 9 year old Marilyn Crawford, and ner two friends "Peter Pan and. Wendy", played by Barbara Bickford and Linda Young, as they whirl through space to visit the (Cont. on next col.) Page 8 THOUSANDS ENJOY "STARS ON ICE" (Co t.) Never Never land. Here we meet the "Crocodile" played by Pat' Hanley ard sila McLaine, as they frolicked around 'ic ice to the enjoyment of oldsters and children alike, bringing roars of laughter from the crowd, We also meet tic mermaids and our lovely ballerina, Vicki Podd, as she displayed her artistic rend- ition of the "Warsaw Concerto," "Pair Precision" featured Barbara Markall and Marilee McNeil, (who placed second in the Western Canadian Championships last year) in a polished performance of pair skating which left nothing to be desired. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of the lovely and talented, Priscilla Snow, the Club Pro- fessional who brought the crowd to their feet in her interpretation of Street Scene. This lovely young lady had the audience at her fingertips and the show was completely stopped until she returned to the ice for an encore, This performance by Miss Snow will long be remembered by the residents of Terrace Bay. "Kittens on the Blades" ended the first helf of the show and proved to be intricate and delightful with beautiful white costumes complete with fluffy tails and enchanting head-pieces, The second half of the show beg.n with the "Lights and Shadows" numbcr and proved that even more thrills were to come to the vast appreciative audicices, It proved to be one of. the most unusual and different numbers ever witnessed, Beautiful girls in Beautiful costumes of satin which were made to depict genuine lampshades, floated around the ice as if on a cloud, and in complete darkness the individually lighted head-pieces gave off enchanting hues of colour and completely entranced the audience. Lovely and talented Lois Salonen glided over the ice with perfection to bring this number to a very delightful close. Priscilla Snow again brought the crowd. to their feet in her interpretation of an "Indian War Dance", The skill and dexterity displayed by this lovely Indian Princess in a white beaded costume, again brought the crowd to its feet demanding an encore, and although exhausted from her previous appearances: she graciously retumed to the ice to the huge ovation of thc crowd, The sparkling personality and ability of Miss Snow, left the crowd avpleuding for more.
