KRAHN AND MORO ACCLAIMED MVPts AT With approximately one hundred and seventy-five in ited guests, members and escorts in attendance, the Annual Wind- up of the Terrace Bay Amateur Softball Association held last Friday night in the Aucitorium of the Continuation School was hailed as one of the most successful events of the season as well as a perfect ending to the softball season, At this "Fall Ball", a variety of pretty flowers offered by local residents adorned the many tables, as well as trays _of assorted dainties and smart souvenir program es ingeniously made up, Banners carrying the names. of the six teams part- icipating in the league.were placed about the auditorium, Twenty-two trophies were given a prominent place of honour on tables near the stage. Vice-President Peter E. Mazza acted as Master of Ceremonies for the presentation programme. After welcoming the guests to the evening's entertainment, Peter called unon Gordon Rowlandson, Chairman of the Terrace Bay Recredtion Association to present the Fraser-Brace Trophy, emblematic of softball supremacy, to Jim Moro, captain of Shift #2 (Inter Lake services), In his romarks, Gordon congratulated Jim and his boys for their wonderful fete, as well as taking the eccasion of congratulating the Softball Executive and thanking all players who helped towards the success of the League, In his brief response, on behalf of his tcam, Jim thanked Gordon, Fraser Brace, his spensors Inter Lake Services, the Softball Executive and the personnel of (Cont. on next col.) rT ! President Ed Pineault assisted Gordon Rowlandson in the presentation of miniature trophies to each member of the champion team, These trophies were made possible through the courtesy of the Fraser-Brace Co, and the Terrace Bay Amateur Softball Association, Due to the unavoidable absence of Harvey Shable, Lakehead Representative of the L. J McGuinness Co, Ltd., Sec~ retary M. Betty Austin presented their five trophies in commencing with Benny Grose for his 500 in the Highest Batting Average. For his twenty-four times of circling the.bases, Jim Moro was present«4 with the Most Runs Scored trophy. Becatseo of nineteen runs scored through his efforts, Henry Krahn was awarded the Most Runs Batted In trophy. The Best Pitching Record ended in a tie between pitchers Ed Aho and Alf Adrian with a lowley 2.05 earned runs average charged against these best pitchers of the season. _ What had been held as a tight secret from the time of its decision to the moment of its announcement, the Most Valuable Player award, tied between Shortstop Henry Krahn of Shift #4-Structural and First Baseman . Jim Moro of Shift #2 (Inter Lake Services) was acclaimed with a loud ovation when Betty made this award public, This cheerful approval continued as both Henry and Jim slowly approached the stage for their trophies donated by the Terrace Bay Amateur Softball Associa- tion. In accepting their trophies, both Henry and Jim, still under the effects of a compuete though happy surprize, - Managed to express their heartfelt appreciation for the honour bestowed upon them, (Scribe's Note; In order to declare the MVP award, the chaired officers spent considerable time as well as a serics of voting. Through an elimination process, Henry and Jim were jointly vested with this great honour. The chaired Executive wish to extend "Honourable Mention" to Ed Brady, Bill Borsum and Murdo Campbell of Salary; Pete Diduch of Shift #1; Dermot Cooke and Marvin Osmar of Shift #2 (Inter Lake Services); Bob Burella, Cliff Woods and Ray Stachiw of Shift #h- Structural who were contestants in this all important election) Following the presentation of individ-. ual awards, Ed Pineault presented the Honorariums which were decided upon between (Cont. on Page 7)
